What 1911 brands to avoid?

My latest 1911 purchases, within the past 10 years, are from Springfield (1), Rock Island (2) and Kimber (1). I have 15 other 1911s, mostly Colt, obtained since 1981.

Colt, Ruger, Kimber, SIG, Springfield, Rock Island, Giesan were all the leaders in the 1911 frame. Yes their are others. Then you have the high end hand crafted production line, Wilsom, Ed Brown, Baer. The you have the new manufacturers, Staccato (new Name- Old manuf.) and others.

One needs to determine the general use or specific application, That may help in determining the caliber desired as well as the size. The 1911 frame is one of the most modified firearm platform. It length of service in long and one can change to meet the desired intent.

Function, Reliability are key features. All 1911's are not created equal. They are endowed by their manufacturer with certain properties. One can purchase parts and assembly or purchase as a complete unit ready to go right out of the box.

One need to conduct their research and find what works form them. As questions, ask friends ask at the range. Firearms people are typically more than happy to discuss their wares.

I have a bunch from Kimber to Nighthawk but far and away my best is a Matt McLearn save your money and get a nice one.. cheap is nothing you get what you pay for I would rather have one good one than 6 cheap ones Wilson Brown are good ones Think twice buy once!

High end (more expensive) firearms DO NOT RELATE to BETTER PERFORANCE. Many DO. Many DO NOT.
It gets down to desire and what will do with it.
1.Shot it regularly
2. Shot it once or rarely
3. Not Shot at all
4. Carry it as EDC (which get back to #1)
5. Display in glass case or safe

I've owned a TaurusPT 1911AR going on 15 years. Never an issue, not one. Out shot a few top @1911's that cost 3-4 times as much. It's not the firearm, its the user. It's the only one I carry

A Taurus is on my to-get list (specifically an Officer-size one). I sometimes hyper-fixate on the cheaper guns that folks complain about, just to see if I have similar issues. I've only one gun that I bought for that reason that I actually that I actually hate (it's a Tisas).
