Charles Daly 1911s

Very little information is available online about the Charles Daly 1911 pistols except that the company has gone through several ownerships throughout the years and who knows who or where they are today. As good as they might be, I would not risk my money on one when there are plenty of low-priced alternatives available. Turkey has several good gun manufacturers that would be better choices today, such as Tisas or Girsan. Rock Island Armory (RIA) out of the Phillippines claims to be the largest 1911 manufacturer in the world and I wouldn't doubt it. I own a 10mm 1911 (The Rock) which is fantastic.

Buddy at work has one, closest I got to it was to put some Lok grips on it, at that time he only had couple hundred rounds thru it but he liked it, felt good to me and felt well built also, think they use cast frames but I've never seen a bad review or video on them I can remember, I don't think it would be a bad choice, this coming from a guy that's never shot a Ruger 1911

Same here. I've read lots of owners of Ruger 1911's that like them. That said, I've never shot one. They are not considered a high quality 1911, though I can't say why. You don't see them used as a basis for a race gun, like the way Colt & Springfield are often used. Should ask my gunsmith why..he seems to know everything about 1911's. Really, he does..

Yeah I think they are good and Ruger stands behind their stuff, maybe it's the cast frame vs forged that makes folks hesitate but their revolvers are cast and they are just about indestructible

I've got a Ruger. It's okay, nothing special at all, though. Mine isn't that great of a shooter, but it's okay. There are some minor things I dislike about it, the hammer is shaped kinda funny, compared to any other pistols I own, and it's harder to get hold of. I do NOT like the scallops on the beavertail grip safety, either, they just don't look or feel right to me. The trigger is ugly, and the grips seemed like a rasp in my paws. I swapped out the trigger and grips, but making sure the radius of the grip safety is kinda problematic, I just don't know which radius is right for a swap-out.
Frankly, I don't shoot it much, I like my other pistols a heckuva lot better. Mine is the Target version, with adjustable sights. At least those work well enough. If I had it to do over, I'd have bought a Springfield Range Officer instead, which were still available when I bought the Ruger.

I have the Super Redhawk in .44 mag. I'm with you on the revo's being indestructible. I've loaded rounds so hot that the primer was perforated after firing, but the pistol hung in there.

Anyone held/shot one of these? I am looking at them in the 9mm and there are a few YT videos on them but looking for first hand. I know there are many brands that may be better but these are Sub-400 and I want to start with this one before moving to more. At Palmetto State Armory you can pick one up rather cheap.
i just posted in another place, i have one. it is engraved and color case the best looking blue ive seen for an inexpensive gun. i havent fired it but i like the feel. it seems to have a barely detectable smaller all over size. it has a thicker trigger, like a Gold Cup.
yeah just for the look i was sold at $349.
i guess if you want me to i will fire it and report back. i did also buy a Tisas Army Aviator which is a commander slide and alloy frame. i really like it. it does need more break in, sticky, but shoots dead on target.
no one else has bought one on here?

In the world of 1911's you pay for what you get .
Would you bet your life on a weapon that was sub-standard ?
Then you compound the situation with a sub-par
Caliber ??
Before conjuring up this mess , carry rocks until you can do better !
but wait, i dont believe every gun i buy will be carried for defense. i like to take some of them out and shoot stuff just for fun.

my 1st 1911 chambered in 9mm was a Rock Island Armory GI model, (had the small GI sights) not fancy@ all. but it's been flawless in operation.
At the time I bought it, it was the only 9mm 1911 that RIA offered. I Spent $ fixing it : Heine sights, better trigger, then had it ceracoated a matt silver color. That 1911 started out sub $400.00 but soon had almost as much in it as I paid for a nice used SS Springfield Loaded Target, in 9mm . I found it FS a year or so after I bought the RIA.

RIA OFFERS A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT 1911'S IN 9MM NOW. HAVE TO WONDER IS THE CD A BETTER BUY THAN A CLOSELY PRICED RIA ?
darn capsl ock..

If I just wanted another 9mm 1911 it would definitely be a RIA, loaded one with everything around 500-550, CD might be fine but got good track record with RIA, that said at 3 times the money Springfield has just come out with 3 optic ready models and the Operator really looks nice, my Desert Eagle 9mm 1911 is just collecting dust, could put an optic plate on it, replacing rear sight with the plate, just hate messing with it but to keep using it in IDPA got to have an optic with these bad eyes, think I'm gettin pretty far away from original question about Charles Daly 9mm 1911's

TISAS 1911 CARRY B9R 9MM 4.25" 9+1 BLACK CERAKOTE W/RAIL PISTOL

$399

Looks like a good deal for that 1911...I don't like / care for the " Picatinny Rail for Accessory Attachment" but I know there's those who want that on their pistol.
I'd be tempted to try one of those Tisas 1911's , if I didn't have more 1911's than I can regularly shoot already.

I have one and am considering another one. A l/w commander in 45 lol. I'm in same position as you, but I'm addicted and can't help myself lol

Hi,
I would think a forged all steel (no MIM) TISAS would be a no brainer these days...

For a economical 1911???

I have five Tisas pistols at the moment. Since buying the first one, I haven't bought another brand. My first was a Stingray in 9mm (bobtailed LW Commander with Novak-styled sights). I liked that one so much, I bought a .45 Stingray to go with it. Then, I bought a Tank Commander, more or less a steel-framed Commander, in 9mm. Then, they introduced the D-10 10mm, and with all it's features, it was a no-brainer.
I was getting hammered bad at local USPSA matches, so when they introduced their doublestack pistols, I bought one of those. All the 9mms needed some extractor "adjustments" and I had to do trigger jobs on the 10mm and the double-stack, but otherwise, they've been excellent pistols.

I also own Colts, a Ruger, a couple of RIAs and five Springfield Armory pistols. The Tisas pistols are every bit as good as any of those (including the Colts, and I used to be a hardcore Colt fanboy), if not better. The only other things I've done, are swapping out the flat mainspring housings on the pistols with them, to arched housings, and swapping out triggers for medium length Cylinder and Slide triggers, so they all feel the same.
You don't have to get a Pic rail on any Tisas pistols except the double stacks, look closely at their website, and you'll see that you can get them with rails or without. I don't like the rail guns, either.
