Anyone held/shot one of these? I am looking at them in the 9mm and there are a few YT videos on them but looking for first hand. I know there are many brands that may be better but these are Sub-400 and I want to start with this one before moving to more. At Palmetto State Armory you can pick one up rather cheap.

They are imports from Italy from Chippa. But not much online about them even though they started being sold in 2021. I may be better off going with Rock Island or another lower-upper priced one.

Randall........Never had a Daly. I've had just about everything else. In this price range, I would recommend the Tisas line as I currently have the Stingray, Tank Commander, and the Raider. Absolutely hard to beat for the price. I put over 1,000 rounds through the Stingray with zero issues and currently carry it quite often. I use Tripp 9mm mags for it. For some extra weight, I bought a pair of LOK brass black grips, got out the dremel, and made the grips bobtail style for the Stingray. The extra brass weight really made the gun feel great ( I did have to replace the grip bushings with standard size for the LOK's). ..........So I would go with a Tisas over a Daly, IMO.

I should know if they have had any experience with them in a day or two. In the meantime, I do have a LOT of experience with Tisas, they are very affordable, and as I've said many times, one of the best 1911's out there in the non-custom market.Their mil-spec models are still sub $400.
Good luck with your search, hope I can find some info for you.

I WOULD START WITH A SPRINGFIELD ARMORY A-1. HAVE HAD MINE TEN YEARS, PROBABLY 9000 ROUNDS THROUGH IT, NO PROBLEMS. REGULAR MAINTENANCE, KEEP IT LUBED, CHANGE RECOIL SPRINGS WHEN NEEDED.. ONLY WORK DONE TO IT WAS TRIGGER JOB,4LBS CRISP, Y CYLINDER AND SLIDE GUNSMITH.

Same here . I have never seen a Charles Daly 1911 but I own the Tisas Stingray in both 9mm and .45. I love both of them and recommend them.

Smoking price, (sort of speak), for a 1911. I've never heard of this brand and haven't found any reviews. My gut would have to say you get what you pay for. I would probably go with more of a name brand, but that's just my opinion. It's a good looking gun on Palmetto's website. At least at $319 you wouldn't lose out to much if it's a problem firearm.

I might agree with fatinggoo about the SA Mil-Spec. I bought one years ago, ran it a while, then sent it to John Harrison for a complete makeover. It's now one of my safe queens and shot rarely due to John's incredible work. Best trigger I have on ANY gun. The SA though will run you several hundred dollars more than a Tisas, which I would still rate as #1 in your price range.

I have a Taylor's and Co. Tac Op 1911 in 10mm. I tell you this as Taylor's is just a "private labeled" Armscor 1911. If the CD you are looking at is one that was made by Armscor (in the past), I would say you probably will not go wrong. We're talking budget level guns here and like the Tisas, you will get "more than your moneys worth". (my Taylors, on sale, was about $400) If your CD has MIM parts, meh, unless you are doing heavy competition every month, I wouldn't worry. If it concerns you, swap out the parts. Now if your CD is not an Armscor (you mentioned Chiappa), you've probably wasted your time reading my post. :-)

I don't think Chiappa has a good reputation in general. I have a M1 Carbine in .22lr they made and had several issues with it, but they eventually got it worked out. People above seem to have had a good experience. So, for $319, might be worth giving it a shot. Have you checked on used 1911's from your LGS? Anything reputable brands close in price?

Looking at PSA site, they have a RIA close in price to the Daly. I bought a 1911a1 GI version ten or more years ago and it's been fine. Just range use, but no issues. A couple years ago, but their 1911 GI issue to see what it was like to shoot one. Only put a few magazines through it. No issues. Interesting to me, while the 1911 felt different in my hand than the A1, I was just as accurate with both.

I have never had a Charles Daly, or shot one, or even seen one. As a suggestion, when I was first getting started with 1911 I couldn't afford much, so everything I bought was from my LGS. Which turned out very well since many times I ran in w/ parts in a bag that I couldn't get back together. Or the time I lost a tiny spring when working on a gun and I had to run over (I had no gun friends at the time), IMHO, nice to have someone near by. Good luck...
