A bit late to the show. Most of my 1911's are full size or competition pistols but I still have three Commander size.
A Colt Combat Commander from 1973 is the early cut away inside slide one that was originally Satin Nickel and now finished in Electroless Nickel by Ron Mahovsky that has been refreshed a bit; Kart barrel, all parts except the thumb and grip safety are EGW. Sights are Yost Gold Line front and Harrison Retro rear.
The one with the black Alumagrips is a full custom build stainless and the one with the Summer Special 2 is a full custom titanium and my daily carry.
Titanium is only 1/3 lighter than steel so an aluminum frame commander size would be a few ounces less but I just wanted something different.

Ya know I always come back around to the same thing. A 45 or a 357 seem to be two logical answers, at least for me. L/W Commander or Smith 19
Man....so many sweet Commanders in this thread!! None in my stable....YET! I have all 5" Govt's and a Dan Wesson CCO ("commander-ish"? LOL).
I DO have a Springfield Trophy Match 5" at Nighthawk Custom being chopped down into a 4" bull barreled Commander.....alas, it's been 9 months now and still waiting......

Congrats on getting you old Commander back..
Looks like whoever you sold it to has taken good care of it.
Though I prefer SS 1911's I do like blued ones too... here may be reason why:
Years ago, I let a friend handle my blue Gold Cup, and .thought I'd wiped it off well before putting it away.
Imagine the look on my face when some time later, I pulled it out to find a perfect thumb print rusted over the Gold Cup "trophy" on the slide.
This was back when I was working FT, had 2 young boys, & was taking care of elderly parents that had serious health issues, so not much time for shooting
The slide rust had corroded deep enough that it couldn't be sanded & refinished..so I eventually ordered a new slide.
Lesson learned. Maybe that's why I rarely shoot that G.C. ?

Isn't it great when you can rescue one you let get away? I got my very first handgun a S&W 4" model 19-4 probably around '76. My son got it when he was 21. He ended up owing me money and I offered to take the Model 19 Back as payment. As the story goes I got it back in my hands again, so satisfied! It'll be with me till death do us part. Still looks brand new. Gets babied, and kept in the safe. I bought a slightly rougher looking
one that I do like to shoot. Really sweet guns.

I don't remember. I bought this pistol in the late 80's and collected the parts to "restore" it. I'm assuming the slide stop is from Wilson Combat which was pretty much the only aftermarket parts readily available up here at the time.
