Why don't you carry?

My employer doesn't allow concealed weapons in the building.

you mean your employer is suggesting you don't carry at the workplace. Is he protecting you when he strips you of your own protection? Unless you work in a federal building or a school, this is the case.

State government.

I can't carry at work either. The company doesn't allow firearms for some reason (it's a yankee Wisconsin company is what I'm suspecting the reason is...) So, instead of risking being fired I don't carry inside the building, but thanks to Sate law I CAN keep it in my truck. Everywhere else, I carry. I usually just throw on my wife's little Sig P238. Since I won the concealed carry certificate from Practical, I'm going to send her to it since she doesn't have hers yet. So I guess I'll be looking to buy another Sig P238 soon, for me... 8)

I do carry any time I can. But, most of my days and evenings are spent in gun-free zones and can't even leave one in a vehichle.

i don't just because i do dental sales and don't want to have to deal with the gun being there on my side and more so wearing slacks and white shirt and tie buttoned up doesn't make for the best CCW gear... and yes i understand anything can happen, but i am not going into situations where i am "scared" of something happening....

There I was in the Tulsa Wal-Mart minding my own business...
I was in line at the Edmond Post Office buying my Elvis commenarative (sp?) stamps...
I was waiting for my steak at Sirloin Stockade...
I was on my way to my Chemistry class at Virginia Tech....

I think you guys get the idea, and I'm not bagging on BenBen, but lemme tell you that alot more of the above types of events take place than you realize. I just finished up an Active Shooter Instructor School, and we watched video afer video of shootings in very public "serene" places. Make no mistake about it Gents.....this world is about to catch fire.

My employer doesn't allow concealed weapons in the building. So as a matter of daily course I don't carry.

Additionally, I've been so busy dropping coin on competition gear, that I use every weekend, I haven't been able to set aside funds for a carry gun.

Speaking off....holler at me this weekend so you can get these AR10 mag pouches. Before I decide to use em for my M14!

I would have liked to have gone to that school...

im thankful i have that little card in my pocket that lets me carry damn near anywhere i want to.. except federal buildings...

I won't make an excuse. I just forget to put the setup on my next pair of jeans sometimes. I really need to make it a habit as I work south of norman, most of the time by myself, on I-35 and get random highway walkers/broke down vehicles looking for money and/or phone call but it's only a matter of time I get someone in here that has a bad intention. I usually keep an xd-9 in my desk but that's a good 40 feet from the front entry. Glad you brought this up cause it's time for a change.

Bryant, find something that is so comfortable that it is second nature. Not that you should ever "forget" your carrying or take it for granted, but if the gun fits you WILL carry it more often.

Is your XD a full size? That is a pretty nice carry gun IWB or OWB either one

I actually carry a PPS 40 in a Crossbreed holster. That is the reason my xd-9 sub compact is in the desk cause the PPS is soo much slimmer.

I imagine a lot of people here in Stillwater don't carry because of time spent on campus. CCW is a no no there.

Well if your like wormy and your waist is a 24 and your shoulders are 60+ its not that hard to conceal a full size even with an extra-small shirt lol

Like some, I have a pocket gun, that stays with me 24-7, unless at work.
While mowing, sitting here right now, whatever.
I am a long time member of the NRA and get their magazine. There is a section about people that have had to use a firearm to defend themselves. 90% of the time it comes on pretty quick. Getting to a safe, or loading a gun is not an option.

I carry 90% of the time, but not at work. Fed building, but the parking lot is open to the public so at least I have it to and from work. If I'm is slacks I carry a P3AT in a Uncle Mikes #2 pocket holster. The pistol almost completely fits into the holster and there is no imprinting. Just looks like a wallet. Sometimes I carry the Kahr PM9 in a Super Tuck. Shirt tucks in and its hard to see. I think the weather in Oklahoma is a factor on if I carry big or small. At least the P3AT is better than nothing.

I'm glad this topic popped back up. I've been pondering this a lot over the last few days. As I was teaching an Active Shooter class I polled the class (70+ police officers from around the metro) and asked who carries a gun off-duty. I would estimate that approximately 1/2 of the class raised their hands. At the end of the class I threw this statement to the class (completely off cuff):

"Now your awareness of the world has expanded. It is your moral duty to make sure your prepardness is on level with your awarness."

It is my belief, that I have a moral obligation (and legal duty) to protect those around me. Particularly my family. It is that belief that probably drove me into my profession. I know few of you have the same legal obligations as I do, but morally do you feel the same?

Just wanted to throw that out here and see what bites.

This obligation to protect those around me put me in the first cc class that I could get into after the law passed, I've carried everysingle day since I was legal.

The first "group" shooting that I can remember ever hearing about was a Luby's cafateria in Texas. When this happened I was too young to carry but the notion of being in a public place when someone decides to just show up and start killing poeple and being helpless got me thinking. I'll be damned if I'm going to hide in a corner and hope that my life, or the lives of the poeple that I'm responsible for, will be spared though chance. Like Troy, I also cannot stomach the thought of innocent poeple around me in any situation getting hurt when I could've done something.

My most sincere want is to live my life and be left the hell alone, but this is not the world we live in. I refuse to live in fear and the solution is to be prepared.

Troy,

To Quote Tom Givens, "You DO NOT get to chose" In other words you do not get to schedule your next gun fight. ( If you could would you go??) So unless your morally or legally obligated not to cary you should have a gun on you at ALL times.

I know former DELTA guys and Navy Seals that don't carry unless they think they need to, and if they are at Luby's they'll be as screwd as everybody else!!!!
This is What Ken Hackathorn decries as Shooters VS Gunmen, Gunmen have a gun on them or near them all the time, Ready to protect and serve, Shooters only have it when they think they'll need it, Wish my Crystal ball worked that well.......
