What did you buy yourself today (Photo Thread)...

Grabbed a 1911 Thursday from buds before leaving for out of town. Stopped at Carolina Rod and Gun on way out of town to check on a price for a NIB 10-22 for a target build. Guy behind the counter said they just got one on consignment and I couldn't resist.

Sig Nightmare Carry - to arrive tomorrow

Ruger 10/22T (Target model) receiver/barrel. Has the Ruger Hammer forged barrel with a pinned brake on it (not crazy bout the brake, lol).
Boyd's evolution stock
Accushot 4-16x40 illuminated scope on a Ruger mount
3 BX-25 mags
Took it apart and found a Volquartsen extractor, and trigger doesn't feel stock, so I think someone's done some work to it.

And of course this is all BAD for me, because on way back IN to town the wife's car took a dump on me. SO I'm really hearing it from her now, lol.

Very nice acquisitions. That 10 is one sweet 10/22.

Thanks, couldn't turn it down for the price. Been reading up on the T model, and the barrels are hard to get apparently, and Ruger would only sell them as replacements for T models, and would only replace them if you sent in the entire rifle.....weird.

Not today, but it came in last week. My new quail, dove, and clay killer. CZ Bobwhite 20 GA SxS

It was actually a couple weeks back but this is my latest acquisition... A Ruger SR-22 impulse buy.

How do you like that SR-22? I have thought about getting one a couple of times but always shy away because it looks like the Walther P22 and I had a bad experience with that one. Besides my Ruger 22/45 has never failed me so I also go for that as my .22 hand gun of choice.

Overall I really like the SR-22. It feels really good in the hand. I didn't care for the stock plastic guide rod so I swapped it out with a stainless steel captured spring one from brass stacker.

The trigger is what I expect from this type of pistol. I have seen a few complaints on YouTube where people say it is heavy but it's pretty much what I have come to expect from any DA/SA trigger. I prefer to use them in full SA mode when at the range anyway and I don't carry it. Either way I didn't think it was that bad at all. Especially for a $300 handgun. You would have to try it in a gun shop to see if it's for you or not.

I swapped the grip out for the larger one it is supplied with. Which Ruger notes in the manual that it might be difficult at first. That's the understatement of the century but it can be done. You just won't be doing it on a daily basis. Hey... you know it's not going to fall off at least. It has a magazine disconnect also which I wouldn't have on a carry pistol but this is a range only pistol so I let it pass.

My only other gripe is also common among DA/SA pistols... the safety/decocker is reverse of every other SA or striker fired pistol. Up is off and down is on. Again I tend to only use it to store the pistol so it makes little difference in a practical sense but if you were using it in place of a carry pistol to practice with and you used the safety on the carry pistol it could screw you up.

I know I spent a lot of time pointing out the minuses here but the reality is that at least so far it's been really reliable although it's only had a few hundred rounds through it on it's initial trip to the range. The only two rounds it didn't fire were two that had already not fired in Tigersripe's rifle. IE they were duds. I put a few hundred rounds of Winchester M-22's through it and it chewed them all up and spit them out happily. It's a blast to shoot and breaks down a whole lot easier than my Mark II does to clean.

My only qualm with the SR-22 is the sub-par performance when using it with a suppressor. The action opens very quickly after firing, allowing more gas (noise) to escape from the breech than other .22lr pistols.
Other than that, they are fun range pistols.

I don't take apart my 22/45 anymore.

Not much, but maybe one day I'll be able get some primers to put these to use.
