Since I'm obviously tinkering with my AR, what are your thoughts on back up irons? Important? Not needed? Offsets are the schizzle?

Nobody runs backups in 3 gun. If your optic goes down there is no time remove it and go to back ups. Offsets are good for close range targets when your scope is zoomed up to its higher magnification but even offsets get used very rarely. They are definitely a luxury item more than a necessity on a rifle.

If you want a good set that stay out of the way unless your in that oh elephant dung moment. Get a set of diamond head d-45 sights. They sit flush under an optic but flip up and out to the side if you need them with just the push of a button. The only downside I have found is when ditching a safe rifle you may hit the button to engage them but that should not matter. Check them out they are pretty cool I have been using them myself.

I was going through the matches I've been in, and I can't think of any situation where off sets would have saved any off my near par time runs. I think I'll keep it spartan.

$300? holy elephant dung
Haha it's 300 for both front and rear sights of you look at normal irons (not magpul) you are roughly going to spend 250. So it's not that bad. And as fragile I have been beating the crap outta mine for the past 3 months and they have been holding up very well. If they ever break I will be sure to inform everyone haha.

I am new to 3 gun but I like my troy flip up
di optic 45 off center BUIS.
Esp for the up close and close together targets, they are fast.

I don't see a 45 degree offset on troys site. Do you just have regular sights mounted on the side of the gun?

Yeah the straight sights are mounted on 45 off set short rails. These sights
are built like a tank. I really think you would tear up the hand guard before you could brake one of these sights.

Dueck defense offsets are $200 though. Is the flip worth $200?
I like the ability for them to be completely out of the way and under my scope for the extra 100 bucks. Also they are the diamond head design and it is fast for quick acquisition. But he'll to each his own I have been tryin them and they work pretty well so far. Stag puts a lot of diamond head stuff on their guns we have them in the shop.

Where is the rear sight mounted?

The di optic troy rear sight is on a small 45 slanted picatinny rail mount.

So its up on the handguard too and not real close to your eye then?

I bit for$30. Hell, if nothing else, I'll give them to my son for Christmas. He'll think they're the schizzle on his airsoft rifle. I need to figure out a way to configure that thing for me to practice, anyway.

I'll take a pic tonight of them. The rear one is mounted under and behind the scope.
Its a personal choice I guess, I find it easier to see the next target coming up.
To much time spent quail hunting.

This is what I was getting at. I am certainly not going to try a co-witness during a match. And so far, I've only had one COF that offsets would have been nice, where I had long, one close, then long range targets. I figure I can try Sean's idea for 30 bucks, and if it doesn't work, fine. I'm not one to hang a bunch of stuff on my rifle unless it really earns it's keep.

Here are pics of my set up. I'm not saying its the right way or the best way, but for me they are handy for swingers and up close partially obstructed head shots.View attachment 5701
