Reloading 9 mm 147

124 - 1,005 - 125 - 278 118%

Using a Ruger LC9 every one can tell the difference is the above.
Using Tony's STI with comp most people will not be able to tell a difference.
(The extra weight reduces felt recoil)
Comp schmomp

I chrono'd at the ark sectional last year with my limited gun at 165.4, barely making major pf of 165.
Intentionally cutting it that close? Or did you bump it up a bit after that?

I usually try to be at least 132 for minor. It's helped me out a lot with bad hits on steel if you drop below the calibration zone.

Excellent! Thanks for the info guys. Since I'm sitting at 132 and it is working with everything I have, I'll call this good and start working on my major loads.

Appreciate it.

I prefer the 147's also. To me, they have less recoil, or less perceived recoil. The 124's feel more 'snappy', which isn't necessarily more recoil, it's just a different feel to me when I'm shooting.

I personally use WST powder, titegroup always seems to leave the shooter in a smokescreen IMO. But, to each their own.
I agree 1000% with this. I'd participate and almost guarantee I could tell the difference. At least I could with cast lead and WST powder. Jacketed or plated and Titegroup maybe not, it might be an interesting experiment to see how many could really tell in a totally blind test.

Oh and whatever you do, don't run Titegroup with plain cast lead, it's not a good scene at all. With the Hi-Tek coated it is said to be okay, but I'd have to try it out on a small batch.

I only notice a difference in cycle speed especially will a metal frame 9mm. I have 124 and 147 grain loads loaded to about 127pf that I shot a few days ago and I prefer the speed of the 124. Maybe all in my head but I feel like I'm waiting on the gun with the 147. I'd suggest not worrying about it to much find a load that works and focus on shooting it. Definitely gonna want plated or coated bullets with titegroup due to the smoke. I shoot coated lead and it isn't that bad

Was that blind luck, or are you that consistent with your loadings? I'm just getting into reloading, and have (as with most other things) a looong way to go.

It depends what's closest when I reload 9 mm. I use Titegroup and 231. The loads are about a grain apart in the reloading manual. When I run out of those ill dig into the stash of WST and see what I can do.

I'm relatively new to reloading but from what I understand, the recoil from a 147g is spread out over a slightly longer time that makes it "feel" softer. The 147g bayou coated bullets appear to need less titegroup than the plated or jacketed bullets to reach power factor. They seem really soft to shoot.

coated will always use less powder than plated or jacketed to reach the same PF, plated will used less than jacketed.

Those BBI's are so slick it hard to get them out of the ammo box by gripping the bullet. Moly coat I suspect.

Nope. It's the Hi-Tech coating that Bayou Bullets has. Bayou is selling to most of the commercial bullet casters now. I know BBI, Acme, SNS, and Missouri are using it in addition to Bayou.

Slick stuff. Barrel always looks clean after shooting them.

Is anybody using unique to load 147 coated bullets? Trying to figure out a good starting place for them. Had been shooting 130's with 5 gr and was wanting to back off pf some. Can't run major in my xdm so no use being that hot.

I use Everglades ammo in their 147gr plated bullet. My load is cci or federal primers with 3.1gr of titegroup set at 1.135 ( I think)
Soft shooting load
