Coated lead bullets are the current hotness. I've tried SNS, BBI, and Blue Bullets and they're all the same. Just get whatever is cheapest

I like Xtreme for all my pistol loads.
As far as load data, get the Lee modern reloading data #2 book, or go to manufacturers website.

Maybe I have this wrong but felt recoil is less with a heavy bullet for a given power factor I am basing this on the calculation force=mass x velocity^2 . This may not be correct for this application. Additionally I have been shooting freedom munations 147's and they seem to have less recoil then there 124's.

Basically, as I under stand it, you use less powder to push a 147 gn bullet to your power factor = less reaction. I converted to 125gn bullets because I didn't really notice a difference and they are cheaper. I think your titegroup is a good powder to start with.

I have also felt a sharper recoil from the 124 vs 147
Which is why I now use 124 in my 3 gun pistol to get closer to the felt recoil of my USPSA limited gun in .40

I use an M&P 5" for both sports so I want them to feel similar.

It's probably more noticeable with the polymer frames. I didn't notice a huge difference in a metal frame, but the 20oz difference might have made a difference.

I hadn't noticed much difference in recoil, but that was comparing my loads with some factory 147. My loads 124g using titegroup and are about 132pf. Doing a bit of searching, it looks like the 147 loads I was using were closer to 140pf. I've got some 147 grain projectiles coming to load so I'll work up a load to try to get a good back-to-back. I ordered the 147s mainly to play with the suppressor. I hope I don't like it better as I've got 9-10k of 124s to load and use this year. Near identical projectiles are about 20% higher. FWIW I'm using Montana Gold projectiles.

I prefer the 147's also. To me, they have less recoil, or less perceived recoil. The 124's feel more 'snappy', which isn't necessarily more recoil, it's just a different feel to me when I'm shooting.

I personally use WST powder, titegroup always seems to leave the shooter in a smokescreen IMO. But, to each their own.

I'd like to see you guys identify them in blind trials
I would actually like to try that, cause maybe it is just in my mind.
I think I have some 147s still so I'll load em up and try it next time I'm at the range.

Bullet Velocity P/F Energy
147 --- 850 - 125 - 236 100%
124 - 1,005 - 125 - 278 118%

Using a Ruger LC9 every one can tell the difference is the above.
Using Tony's STI with comp most people will not be able to tell a difference.
(The extra weight reduces felt recoil)

How close do you load toward the 125 PF? Differences in chronos, temps, ES, etc. to keep from falling under at a mostly on their equipment.

I chrono'd at the ark sectional last year with my limited gun at 165.4, barely making major pf of 165.
