recommended survival knifes?

An Ontario TAK-1 is what has lived on my GHB for a few years now.

Looks a lot like my Busse Mean Streets knife.

I just ordered their 5 in. Razor Tech, never used their brand before. I can be pretty rough on knives at times, hope it's as good as you guys say. Thanks for the tip.

I spend a lot of time in the woods cutting shooting lanes and putting up tree stands and skinning a deer when I get one. Best knife I have ever used for bushcraft is the KaBar Potbelly designed by Johnson Adventure Blades out of Nebraska. Met the guy at elephant dung Show last year and was a great guy. It is a hell of
KaBar is such a solid knife. I can't believe no one mentioned it until after 100 answers!

There are some custom knife makers in Oklahoma that are incredibly talented with some amazing steel and scales.
I have three from Dave McCroskey. An Elk Skinner and the two piece Trapper set. He builds the blades from the turbine blades of a GE jet engine, anneals them to work his magic, and then sends them to be cryogenics hardened. My elk skinner is Rockwelled at 62.3, the trapper set is 61.1 hardness which is really hard.
The Elk skinner actually skinned three elk and four deer before needing to be sharpened. When I say needing sharpened, it would still shave hair, but Dave's knives are scalpel sharp and offer lifetime resharpening if they are sent back postage paid both ways.
The knives are custom fit to each individual's hand for comfort. My name is engraved on the blades and embossed on the custom leather sheaths.

Oh yeah, I make a few knives myself.
Buy the blanks and build the scales.

These are wood from Brazil.

These are stone from rocks found in the Arizona desert.

That post reminded me that I have an old Vietnam era K-Bar I seriously abused for more than 50 years! Many decades ago, I attached a pair of lineman's snips to the sheath, and sometime later, attached a nice stone to the back side. It's worn down some over the years, and has been used for just about every job I can think of. Still holds a good edge, and makes a fine weapon is needed.

Now, that's a piece of history! The blade edge shows signs of many sharpening's. It's a true veteran!

Here's another I didn't consider. This one was hand chipped by a local craftsman, then assembled into a good looking knife. Good looking, and razor sharp. Another good one to have around.

Beautiful work!

I also knap flint points and knives.
Here are some little bird points done in the past just for display.

This is the last knife knapped before I quit that craft.

Thanks all!
I used to knap a lot and took all the precautions. A close friend did as well, but he eventually was diagnosed with silicosis which came from the dust of the flint that was inhaled into the lung creating thousands of tiny knives. He sadly passed away, and I quit.

Sorry for your loss, glad you're ok tho.

I got that Cold Steel Razor Tek delivered today. Very sharp out of the box. I like the size, and the hardcore sheath it comes with. We'll see, after a good break-in period, how it holds an edge. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the tip on the brand.

Very nice. I have a cold Steel folder that I call my folding bayonet. It too is sharp as a razor.

Okay fellas, What would be a good blade for all sround survival situations? from cutting wood for a shelter or fire to skinning animals.

I was kinda looking at this one. What say you boys? http://www.topsknives.com/product_info.php?products_id=307
You can't go wrong with Topps. Have had a few and they are like Timexes. Kabar makes good blades too.
I am carrying a Topps Air Wolf now. Great for my 59 year old 11-Bravo body.
You will not be un-happy with Topps.
