I wonder if I could run enough in between now and then to make a good showing?
I bet you would surprise yourself with how much your stamina improved if you started running 2-3 times a week between now and the run 'n gun. Check out the c25k running program (couch to 5k)... it starts you out walking a lot and jogging for short spurts, and you increase the amount of jogging slightly each time you go out. I used that program last year when I was trying to get into running shape for the Pecos Run 'n Gun... it works. Our run will be a 10k rather than a 5k, but hey, you run 'til you can't run no more, and then you walk! Nobody is going to be able to run the whole thing (terrain alone will prevent that). No shame at all in walking the whole thing if you aren't in running shape... there will be a few old farts out there (my dear old Dad included) who will be doing just that.

I can easily run a mile at a time maybe even two at a time which I think is how it works isn't it? 1-2 miles then shoot followed by 1-2 more miles and repeat?
That is more or less the idea, though the stations won't be evenly spaced. The event actually takes place on two separate parcels of land, separated by 2 miles of dirt road. You start out having to run the dirt road to the back parcel, shoot 3 stations that are about a half mile apart each, then run the dirt road back to the front parcel where you shoot 3 more stations before heading back to the finish line.

How does the scoring work? I assume some points for running time and some for shooting time?
Yep, your overall score is an even split between your running score and your overall shooting score (the average of your shooting scores on all 6 stages). Both are scored on a percentile basis.

I volunteer to be the beer jockey using Jesse's beer wagon/UTV.
Y'all just let me know what brands you desire.
Make mine a Guinness! I will need to stay sharp while running this thing, but after everybody's crossed the finish line I will crack a few with y'all.
One of the coolest parts of doing the run 'n guns down in Texas is hanging out and drinking with all the RO's and runners. You just don't meet cooler people than the ones who show up to events like these.
