Pawnee Winter Run 'n Gun - Jan. 18, 2014 - Pawnee, OK

Yep, I bought that very thing today... a small pack that will hold just my hydration pouch, my rain suit, layers of clothing, and minimal tools like a multitool, cleaning rod and extra lube. I figured I needed something that covers the gap between full LBE pack and just a war belt anyway.
What did you get, if you don't mind me asking?

This week we got all the target frames set up and plotted out the final layout for the course. Yesterday I got the strobe target indicator that will be used on the 500 yard shot so we don't have any issues with calling hits. The steel shipped yesterday as well. It's gonna be a good one... you don't want to miss out on this!
Someone will shoot your strobe unless it is at a real safe distance from the target and you better bury the wire leading to it. Electrical gadgets don't usually last long with bullets flying but I sure hope it does. It would be nice to see the hits yourself when shooting.

I went to Academy and got the Drago Tracker backpack that they sell for $50. Amazon didn't have it any cheaper, and it had good reviews.

Yeah, we have the wire protected by angle iron coming down from the plate, and logs where it runs off to the side. I will still be bringing an extra wire or two just in case. My buddy has some old hummer armored windows, so we might borrow one to put in front of the strobe too! I know there will probably be a lot of lead going downrange on that stage...

Also, today is the last day for registration. If you're thinking about doing this, don't miss out... you will regret it when you see us posting pictures and talking about how kick ass it was!

This was a pretty interesting and fun event. I shot really well, came in 3rd shooting but 27th running. Seems like there were 41 competitors. Not sure what my overall placement was in the combined. Where are scores going to be posted?
Using 3-gun setup mag pouches was a bad idea (impossible to run with the loaded AR mags on my belt), as was my choice of motorcycle boots for footwear. The first 3 miles were not bad, but the remaining 3.5 were a blister-fest. I expected to come in last in terms of running, since I walked the whole course, and every single other competitor I observed running at some point. Looks like I'll be looking into some kind of chest rig and hiking shoes/boots for the next one.

Robert can hook you up for some good foot wear.

It was windy as hell today, but the temperature was OK.
I wasn't far off at work on Sooner Lake.

Good job Mitch I think I have 4th in shooting, I kept hitting high & right with the mosin nagant pick up gun I was trying to adjust my hold just needed a sixth bullet. 4 min worth of penalties for missing with the mosin is rough but is way better than a broken extractor, but what are the odds of that happening

Looking forward to seeing some scores. I hear I did pretty good. It was a great match and my legs were telling me they had had enough by the end and my left knee is talking to me right now. Thanks to Daniel, Al and all the guys that worked to make it happen and to the McAllisters for their hard work and for letting us have it on their land! Enjoyed visiting with everyone and looking forward to seeing you all at the next one this summer.

Lonnie. I have your trophy. Congrats. You got third overall.

I didn't do so well. My extractor decided to break on the second stage. I still did the course. Just zeroed 2,3, and 6 because of no rifle. Just shot the pistol on 5, including the rifle target.

And today I am pretty sore. Need to do a little running before the next one.

Thanks to the people that put on this event and to the landowner that hosted it.

Thanks Will. Gun problems stink and to think the gun failed on a course that we only needed 30 rifle rounds for is crazy. I brought a cleaning rod in my stock just in case I had some failure. Did you have a lot of rounds through your rifle or is the .308 platform prone to breaking like that? Sorry to hear that though. My left knee is bothering me but it has been flaring up for the last 3 months. I hope it quits sometime soon. I'm getting ready to leave for OKC for some furniture shopping. I'll try to contact you to pick it up.

It is actually a 223. The rifle does have a lot of rounds fired, but the extractor appeared to be fine the last time I cleaned it. And i clean it often. Guess its going on the list of things to just replace as general upkeep.

Thanks to all of you for coming out, and for making it a great event. I saw some very impressive shooting from several of you... especially Lonnie, who had the highest overall shooting scores in the event. I have e-mailed the final results to the competitors and ROs. I am looking forward to an even better time at the Pawnee Summer Run 'n Gun, which will be held on July 19. I hope to see you all there!

Big Thanks to the organizers, RO's and landowner, can't imagine the amount of work that went into this! It was a great time, a learning experience and well worth the drive, blisters and all!
We had to get on the road before the results were totaled but it looks like one in our group posted the winning score.
Hope to make the next ones too!

Tks
Run n gun give me a reason with a deadline to add cardio

Good luck on hitting the weight stack & shooting, there is a blurry line between getting great results and avoiding injury to back & shoulders. Dry firing, rows & straight bar curl all flirt with tennis elbow. I am at 100% at the moment but I try to takes Jared's advice do it twice if I feel a burning sensation stop/finish up & seek medical attention but then again we were at twin peaks when he was saying this.
