Thanks 41 Charlie. The older I get, the more I realize a Colts gov't model has the look and feel I prefer. I did cave for a couple modern additions, as well as good sights , good trigger, modern finish.

My 1st Colt. New shooter bought a Sig 9mm 1911 and a Glock G45 as my 1st guns, but knew a Colt was a necessary firearm on the 1911 platform

Which model is this? I don't keep up on all the offerings, but with the checkering its very interesting. Also the slide rollmarks I've not seen before. But as I said I'm out of the loop. Got a UPC number available, so I can research? I like the retro features and the modern upgrades together

It has the traditional 1991 looks, but I'm not familiar with these roll marks? And it's a 70 series. Possible alloy LW frame? Perhaps a TALO offering? I'm in for the education on this model...

Government Classic USA. O1911C USA. Standard 70 series but worked on by Pete Single. TALO version

Correct, TALO version of the O1911C.
I thought it was good looking and it's a terrific shooter as well

Colt LW Talo super 38 commander. Thats a fistfull of typing, but its a great carry piece. Its not new and night sight is pretty dim, might need to address that, but shes a point and shoot darlin'. Hey 41Charlie, 10 rounds of super 38. 124grain hornady XTPs at 1225fps, ouch! A favorite carry piece

That's a beauty, Bill! I believe this is the same LW TALO 38 Super c. 2012 after a little massaging by Dave at Evolution Armory. It's very hard to beat any LW Colt Commander (especially chambered in 38 Super) for everyday Carry! I can see why yours is a favorite carry piece!

41 Charlie, that is exactly how I would change mine, lose the FCS via the carry cuts, checkered front strap and complete black cerakote (no more 2 tone) . cerakote on mine is begining to show its age. It may be time for a facelift after this summer, not sure if Dave is still doing Colt builds? I need to contact Evolution.

My single Colt, it became a Gunsite Custom Carry back in 1990 (gunsmith: Kit Karson), and sports a Gunsite low-mount safety. I still carry it while working.

I am 70 years old with no heirs interested in my firearms. So at the request of my wife( also not a gun person ) I have been thinning the herd. I was down to 5 1911's left that all had special meaning to me. This was one of them.

This was my last Colt 1911...I still have my Woodsman. I sold it Thursday to a young man ( 31 yrs. old ), former Marine that wanted his first 1911. He is more interested in older guns and preserving history. I did not want to part with it but I knew that it was going to a good home...even his wife was thrilled. Within a few hours of the exchange, he drove 2 hours home and had numerous pictures posted ( photography is a hobby of his ) in several threads of another gun forum we both frequent. One exceptional picture with it placed on the constitution. As much as it hurt, I think I made the right decision.

I parted ways with a well used Gold Cup 6 months ago. It also had special meaning to me also but not as much as this one. Already deleted pix of it so cannot post any. May dig the Woodsman out for a couple pix someday.
