2011 Arkansas Section Multi Gun Championship, October 29-30th

So that is why you asked me what choke I was using at the last 3gun over there, I was sending the steels all the way to the back of the bay with Modified choke.
Question, with Diffusion would 9 shot be best for clays?

I run 7 1/2 AA's on everything. Theoretically for clays it makes more sense to run more shot but it really all boils down to what patterns well in your gun. If 7 1/2 and 9 both give you a 16" pattern at 15 yards but 9's shoot right or have open spots in the pattern their probably not what you want. Take all those chokes and all the ammo you think u might want to shoot to the pattern board. It's pretty eye opening.

Jesse, I noticed there are a few stages that combine clays and steel. Do you just use heavier shells on the steel and still shoot the diffusion choke on those stages?

Looking forward to this match. I've only shot Ozark and this looks like a totally different ballgame.
You really have to just go out and shoot both chokes and ammo combinations and pattern them. I have also shot the choke/shot combos at various targets (Poppers, mini poppers,4" plates, 5" plates) at various distances so that I know the limitations of each combo. You also have to think about what your match conditions are like. Heavy wind can make poppers stand up harder. Stars can make a that would be great on a popper look like a bad miss. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you really have to know your shotgun.

ill be shooting my light modified choke the whole match.

That will give me time to watch jesse swap out red hot chokes.

I hope you bought some spreaders or enjoy 2nd place?!?! Kurts LM method is pretty fool proof. If you put a 7 1/2 through a LM it will do everything you need at most matches. The diffusion choke and spreader shells give you a little more margin for hitting easy targets with less than perfect sight pictures.

yeah, no swapping for me.
It's either LM or Diffusion.
Whichever it is, it's for the whole match.

Is it really hard to swap chokes in your gun?

Is it really hard to swap chokes in your gun?
no, very easy. I just don't know enough about them to try to figure which one to swap to & when.
Kinda like golf, if I could do the entire thing with 1 club & not have to figure which to use for what & where, I like it alot more.
I'm sure with experience that'll change, but for now that's where I'm at.
I'd hate to leave a stage having made the wrong choke choice due to lack of experience.

If you wonder why Lance is carrying all my 3 gun stuff around at matches for me, well, now you know..

actually, I think Mike could probably go without ever carrying his own gear.

Since May I thought I was shooting a modified choke, I knew that is what I had in the gun so no need to confirm. When we were getting ready for the sporting clays I practiced Wed, Thurs & Fri and on the long dropping clays I was consistantly barely breaking them but could not figure it out until I googled benelli chokes Saturday morning and realized that I was shooting a skeet choke. I have shot four 3 gun matchs and a sporting clays with a skeet choke. Left it in this past weekend only because I knew were my slugs were hitting at 30 yards. Just thought I would share.

I talked to Bruce today.

Stag Arms is putting an upper and some certificates on the prize table.

MGM Targets is sponsoring the steel on the long range stage. We are going to be shooting the 10" round flashers with the 5" square heads at 200 & 300. The 100 yard targets will be the 6" colt style auto poppers. He said they may move the 100 yard targets in some if they are too difficult.

I think the Virginia count is gonna be the hard part personally.

This weekends match was another truly outstanding match at Old Fort!!! Despite my best efforts to torpedo myself, I'm still happy with my finish. Squad 4 was rock solid and had a great time. Big thanks to all of the BS'ers that were there. Even bigger thanks to the match staff. I thought they all did a great job. I have to say that we have a ton of really solid shooters here! Congrats guys...

I second what Rusty said.

Crappy pictures of some results posted here.
