Carrygun Match Guidelines

Safety

1) Safety is everyone’s job. If you see something unsafe, SAY SOMETHING !
2) This is a COLD RANGE. No guns are loaded prior to the “make ready” command.
3) Do not unholster your gun unless on the line & after told to “make ready” by the RO. (Range Officer) IE; your gun stays holstered unless you’re on the line making ready or in the safe area.
4) Follow all range commands of the RO, as they are given. (Don’t rush, don’t anticipate!)
5) The “safe” area is the classroom, at the southeast corner of the building thru the double doors.
You may “gun-up” there, while facing the EAST wall. (away from the double doors)
6) Do NOT handle any ammunition in the safe area. (Load magazines anywhere BUT the safe area)
7) All movement and reloads must be done with the trigger finger outside the guard.
8 ) Don’t break the 180 with the muzzle. (Muzzle & Finger warnings may be given, but are not required)
9) If you have an accidental discharge, STOP! Face downrange and do what the RO tells you.
10) Do not try to outsmart the stage. Due to the limitations of an indoor range, all shots must hit the backstop for safety. Walls, ceiling and floor are not the backstop!
11) It is required that the shooter engage targets only from the specified positions.
12) All prop walls are considered to go all the way to the floor. Unless otherwise specifically outlined for the stage, if you can see a target under a wall, do not shoot it. If you’re unsure, ask!
13) All walls and targets are considered impenetrable. Do not intentionally shoot thru a target, prop or wall hoping to hit another target.
14) When told, “unload & show clear,” remove your magazine, remove the chambered round,
point the gun at the backstop and pull the trigger. If there is an AD, it’s a Match DQ

DISREGARDING ANY OF THE ABOVE GUIDELINES WILL RESULT IN A MATCH DQ

If you are DQ’ed for a safety violation, there is no refund and there is no whining.

Protocols

1) You are expected to stay with your squad throughout the match.
2) You are expected to help tape, pick up brass and/or reset the stage for the next shooter.
3) If you are the “on deck” (next) shooter, you do not need to help reset the stage.
4) If you’re “in the hole” (3rd up) pick up the shooter’s brass. If you’re 4th or 5th or greater, help tape/reset.
5) If you are reported as a “slug” (not helping at all) then you forfeit your chance at the drawing.
6) There is no shooting straight thru the match, unless you have a great reason.
7) After the match is over, you are expected to help sweep, take down the props, clean up and restore the range to how it was before the match.
8 ) If you leave early, you forfeit your chance at winning a $50 Heartland Gift Certificate.

Must be present to win!

We will allow shooters who have a CR Speed or similar belt to use that at this match, but their holster cannot be a pure race holster like the "Ghost." It must fully cover the barrel/slide, like a Blade Tech DOH.

It the gun has a magwell, that's ok.

But you cannot place mag holders in front of the Iliacal tuberacity (past the point of the hip)

Turns out that some people only have such a gun and therefore doubles as their defensive handgun. They would like to get in some more trigger time on pratical, yet challenging matches.

So we've now created a division called "Other" to accommodate them. This also keeps the "real" divisions pure by separating them out.

Look for another challenging, fun match next Sunday!

Since Seth Meyers, Uh I mean Mike Chambers isn't going to be there I'm going to have to find someone else to punish with my derringer.

I'll be there, except I injured my illical tuberacity at the last match rolling around and shooting.

PS David, change the date at the top of the original post to Feb. 20

A question was asked at the last couple matches that I wanted to address regarding the safe room. As the rules above state, no ammo is to be handled in the safe room. Some people carry the gun they are going to shoot, to the match. What do they do?

After talking it over with David and keeping theHeartland "Cold Range" Rule, those individuals will need to unload their carry ammo in their vehicle before entering the facility. Don't do it next to or near your vehicle, stay inside your vehicle.

If you have a sufficient number of magazines you could just remove the mag with your carry ammo (and the chambered round) and put it in your bag and replace it when you leave the match to go home. Revolver guys, you know what you have to do.

See you Sunday.

got a quick question, i have a new person that is wanting to shoot the match but she hasn't bought a gun ,yet can i shoot the stage and the go to the classroom and give her the gun and then she shoots it...

We can make it work. Last match, we had a gal start from "low ready" as she had no holster. (a situation now remedied!)

There's no need to go to the classroom, tho. When it's her turn, you go up to the line with her and AFTER the "Make Ready" command, you can give her the gun while observing all safety rules, etc, etc.

Will she be shooting your XD ? Is she right handed?

Why not use the Range to do this?? The back stop is built to take gun fire, if the worst was to happen while unloading your carry gun. ( Keeping the 4 rules of Firearm safety in clear view) Having 40 plus folks unload there gun in there car is just asking for trouble, IMHO. They can though on ear and eye pro step out on to the range and clear there gun.

I will defer to the match director but I don't think that will fly.

I thought about having folks unload inside the range, close to the backstop. The problem is that we have sweepers in there and we have no one to supervise folks unloading since they straggle in at different times.

I don't want to hear about someone unholstering their gun early and holstering late while turning and walking uprange, possibly catching a sweeper under their muzzle even for a second. Should it be a DQ? Maybe the angle made it look like....etc, etc, etc.

Besides, the match is run with an RO that tells you when to draw your gun. I had to DQ a guy who was unholstering his gun while there were 5 tapers downrange, but at least his wasn't loaded at the time.

I think that the folks coming out to shoot these matches are smart enough to unload safely in their car. (which should prompt them to be even more careful, since if they screw up, it's their car that's taking the hit. Not to mention it forms a bit of a safety bubble for the rest of us.)

I've been to 1000+ matches and I've never heard of someone having an AD inside their car while clearing their gun.

Ben I have several Glocks, several holsters, and several mag pouches if it would be easier for o e of you to shoot my gun you are welcome to it.

Anyone up for shooting .380 baby guns from low ready at this months match?

That would be more expensive than me shooting my .45 last month

I think I am going to pick up one of those slim little Taurus .380's with my match gift certificates that I won. I would love to try a side match with the .380's sometime.
