Carrygun Match at Heartland Feb 20th !

Burk... that FTF-FTE you had last month was worth 5,000 rounds of practice ammo. What target did you fail to neutralize? I thought you did good- kept your head in the game, kept the fight up and got the gun running.

"Epic win" as the young folks say.

I guess I did actually neutralize it EVENTUALLY, although I could have just punched him in the face by the time I got my gun running.

I joke about it a little but I do actually like those things to happen SOMETIMES so you wont be thrown completely off your game (poor choice of words) when it does happen.

That may have very well been an unexpected Plan B on the street. Any one who watched the video of your run on that stage needs to understand:

If that happened for real, stepping "off the line of attack" while dealing with the gun failure was priority 1. Unfortunatly, in a shooting match we have to make a linear retreat for the sake of range safety.

I had a mental failure on the barricade stage. Went prone before reloading the gun. BAD.
Even worse- I stayed "exposed" while trying to fix the problem.
Learnings- learn to count to six, never let your gun run dry in a fight.
Use cover while fixing the problem

Unfortunately, in a shooting match we have to make a linear retreat for the sake of range safety.

That's funny, cause I actually thought about doing that for a split second. The RO would have frowned if I would have stepped aside and let it go by me then shoot at it as it went away.

Both good things to remember

Yes, but........ it happened in a hallway and he couldn't do that. :D (sometimes you have to apply elements that fit the stage, even if they weren't present at the time.)

This is one often overlooked advantage to shooting matches. You just can't set this stuff up for when things go wrong.

If you have a problem while practicing, typically, you stop, look at it, analzye it then clear it, then wonder for a moment why that happened then go, "Oh, well," and go back to your practice.

At a MATCH, things take on an entirely different aspect. You have to keep your head, think on your feet and solve the problem so you can continue ASAP.

I once shot a match where it had rained. The wooden platform was wet and my Nike Sharks slipped out from under me. I landed on my butt, keeping the muzzle pointed safely downrange. I engaged the required targets from the seated position, got up and finished the stage. I didn't place too high on the stage.

Still, it was my best performance. I obviously didn't plan on falling square on my butt, but I dealt with it immediately and effectively. (Don't think I missed any shots from there) The RO congratulated me on keeping my muzzle downrange (I'm sure he had a brief "CRAP!" moment himself)

Matches test you in ways you never would've thought about and simply cannot replicate during practice.

Dave... if I had know it was a hallway... your paper adversary would have taken a fatman's elbow to the throat on the way by. B)

Paper cuts can be deadly... so I just shot him 6 times and went on my way.

I like shooting matches... but I really like seeing what I did wrong... and doing the mental work to "fix it". I guess I am always cautionary after spending years in the training business myself (high voltage line work). Things never co-operate in the feild as well as they do in the "lab".

I thought the crying and pant pissing was a good scare tactic employed by Mr. Burk while fixing his malf. Nobody wants to be accused of beating up a pant pissing cry baby. J/K. Lol!

This thread is awesome.

So far, I have:

  • Jesse getting kicked in the nuts if anyone makes fun of a newbie
  • Me shooting a stage without pants (not what I meant by field strip)
  • Several people shooting without holsters
  • Redneck doing ninja rolls and shooting
  • Thunder Girls possible shooting a stage or two (Actually it is just Sandy in a Thunder girls outfit)
and this

you have to hang upside down on the track that moves the target up/down range. Upon the start signal someone hits the button and you go hurling down range upside down. We then move targets across your path and you have to shoot them upside down while both of you are moving.

LETS GO!

There is definately no FLUFF on this forum! All gun talk! :hum: :pics: :You_Rock_Emoticon: :confuse:

I read this while eating lunch out. Can I take a IRS dedution for training related expenses? And dry cleaning costs?

Chuck Norris would never feild strip. He cannot piss himself. In fact, Chuck's body produces no urine.

I say we all get a "Last Man Standing" shoulder holster for this weeks match. Bruce Willis probably does't chafe either.
