Carry Gun Match - Heartland Outdoors 5-20-12

the other thing that is (IMO) AMAZING about this match is that whatever gun you have, you can shoot. So when i bring new shooters they don't have to buy a fishing vest or worry about mag placement or get a trigger job.
This match is like a gateway drug, everyone is doing it and even though you are nervous the peer pressure gets to you and you think well just this one time and before you know it, your hooked, you have dropped a bunch of cash, lost your friends that don't do drugs, fighting with your wife about your drug addiction, thinking all the time about the next time you can get your hands on the next awesome drug....

+1 and a like. though many clubs will let you get hooked er introduced with what you bring out as long as it is safe.
What is it with fishing vest? I have a vest though not a fishing vest and I shot from a freaking shirt as a cover garment there even during the weak hand match if mem serves. Trash talking lol :) Guess to be official I have to get me a fishing vest. Where should I look for one to purchase? I would expect all you closet IDPAers would want to get rid of them - let me know lol

It would be tough to constantly run 18 rd IDPA legal stages at Heartland, unless set-up time was significantly increased. Even then, repetition would occur early and often, at least as far as 18 rd stages went.

The guns winning IDPA matches are not compact, low capacity, or snubbies. The winners are using Glock 34's, 5" 1911's, 4 inch revolvers, 4" & 5" M&P's, etc. Full size guns all.

I like where the Carrygun match is and I see no reason to change it.

So is anyone up for shooting summer carry guns at the June match? What y'all pack around these mean city streets when it's hot out? This will be the last summer in OK where we have to keep them concealed although I think most will opt not to open carry. I kind of switch around between snub, Kahr PM9, and Kahr 380 in appendix carry. I also occasionally pocket carry. Think I might give the little 380 a try at the next match I attend.

I too as stated here t least twice like your matches. I also stated I would hate to see it switch to IDPA.

Guess we will disagree what is a carry gun and also IDPA is supposed to allow LEO and military to use duty gear.
IDPA has no more then 11 at the start for ESP/Sp and 9 for CDP. Actually those 7 -8 round mags help with reloads. so is it really a disadvantage not to be carrying 11 rounds at the start and that is if you stop topped off.
Play by what ever rules are there and have fun. just like my compact 26 shooting against full size highcaps lol. Just play the game and have fun or switch guns if one wants to be competitive. I will say compacts do very well in IDPA and have won maj matches.

Play what one wants, Beetch about what one wants and live a happy life with as much trigger time as possible.

If it wasnt caught before thanks for putting these matches on.

I caught it, thanks! I appreciate your appreciation!

I'm not knocking IDPA. As I said, I'm a Charter Life member. If there was a local match, I'd shoot it. I was only stating some of the problems, as I see them, that made me bypass it as a venue when I was debating what format this match would be.

Now, what gun to shoot next time?? Maybe my G-26 needs a little love....maybe my 3rd Sig .380 mag will be here.....my my S&W Model 29 hasn't seen a match since 1984....

Decisions, decisions......

:D

In case anyone doesn't know, those who have obtained Master status (highest available) in 4 divisions of IDPA (4-gun Master) is a pretty elite crowd.

Massad Ayoob
Dr. Clifford Bryant
Bobby Carver
Gary Dunlap
David Elderton
Mark Elliott
Mark Haerr
Rob Haught
Robert L. Houzenga
Harold Jasper
Carroll Lawrence
David K. Maglio
Curt Nichols
Jason P. Parks
David Schuster
Rick Simes
Matt Sims
Bob Vogel
Bill Wilson

I know a lot of those guys....

Now there are FIVE divisions, but I've not been able to shoot the new one at a Classifier yet.

And they recently added "Distinguished Master," attainable only by winning a National or World title, or being within 3% of the winning score. My best placement at an IDPA nationals was First Master, getting edged out of the National title by one guy....apparently by more than 3%. Oh, well!

I guess I'm just going to have to stick around OKC next drill weekend and shoot this thing before heading home to Tulsa. It sounds like everyone has a pretty good time and the match always seems to fall on drill weekend. What time do you guys usually wrap up?

I just want to shoot. I would have to be on the road for that awesome tour up the Turnpike by 830-ish. Shooting through might work.

OK... if people get to stand around hugging for 4 seconds then I get to hump someones leg! Burk.... you up for a little "mississippi leg hound" action?
