Burk, I missed your question the first time.
Would I consider it? Sure, but only for about a nano-second.
I don't want to bash IDPA or have this turn into an IDPA thread. I was only relating some of the reasons _I_ will not run this as an IDPA match.
I've been shooting IDPA since the late 90's, including several IDPA Nationals. I've spoken personally with all the founding board members, so it's not like I'm unfamiliar with it.
There is zero chance they will make the rule adjustments needed for me to make this match IDPA sanctioned. If it was sanctioned, I'd have to comply with and enforce all the rules, including the stupid/deadly ones.
Further, if folks paid $20 and shot 30 rds or less, regardless of how "tactical" those rounds were, I don't think they'd keep coming back.
There have been two IDPA clubs in the OKC Metro area in the past, both have long since dissipated into nothingness. I can't say why, specifically, but the last one had some serious safety issues. (shot thru the classroom wall, etc) Was that the only reason? I don't know, but the fact remains there is currently no OKC area IDPA match of which I'm aware. If there was one, I'd go shoot it.
If the match did go the IDPA route, it would be uncompetitive to shoot a 5-shot snubbie, while .22's , 380's, lights, ports, lasers, and revolvers with barrels longer than 4" would all be disallowed.
IDPA suffers from much of the same thing USPSA does: real carryguns aren't competitive. THAT is the niche I've identified as needing to be filled. Active participation these past two + years, prompting us to go from one match per month to two, confirms the right decision was made.
