I shot it tonight with my Boomer Shooter jersey and I shot from concealment. Apparently only 5 of us shot this "Carry Gun" match from concealment.

A common theme. Good for you shooting from concealment, I guess a lot of people are looking forward to Nov 1. I'm going to shoot my little .380 at the next match I come to. I may be the only shooter around that actually carries one pretty often in the summer. Those carrying the large pistols in competition holsters must really hide the well. I never even notice their guns in public.

I shot the match last night and really enjoyed it. Thanks to David and Benjamin and all the others that helped put this on and run smoothly.

The nice thing about this match is that it's open to anyone shooting about anything they have available. There is a category for everyone... With a preferential drawing for those shooting from concealment. I shot my glock 34 this week but am planning to shoot a new Kahr P9 from concealment in the future.

I really like the inclusive nature of this match and believe this is why we regularly have 40+ participants.

Looking at the scores Benjamin had on his laptop at the match, it looks like I got 1st place :D kick ass!!

Thanks for putting this match on everyone.

This is a good venue. We see a lot of new faces every month.

I don't always shoot "concealed", every gun I do shoot is a gun that gets carried or kept for home defense. Same with the holsters. The revolvers don't travel as often as they used to so this match is ideal to get some practice shooting and reloading under a little stress. It's been a good place to test guns and see how they do away from the bench
When I don't cover up that's generally the reason

That's what's good about this match, a chance to try different stuff and different carry methods to see what works under a bit of stress. Lots of matches around to shoot the Production/Limited/Open rigs.

I know this issue has been raised before and that is why various categories were created to accomodate any type of gun/setup someone wanted to use. For example, there is an "Other" category for race guns, etc. and other categories that accomodate Lo-cap, Hi-cap, snubbies, etc.

There are no prizes based on 1st, 2nd and 3rd place so no rig or setup has an advantage of any kind on prizes that are handed out... and the scoring is provided on overall results as well as results by category. The only preferential treatment in terms of prizes is that one of the gift certificates is designated as "concealed carry" shooters only... which last night translated into a 1 in 5 chance of winning a $50 gift certificate.

For me personally, I'm competing against myself anyway... trying to shoot smoother, faster and more accurately each time.

I'm really struggling to see the "harm" caused by having an inclusive match that everyone can shoot at. I was introduced to this match about a year ago as a brand new shooter and really appreciated the open and friendly atmosphere. I know there have been and continue to be many new shooters introduced to our sport through this match so I wouldn't want to do anything to spoil that or to limit what someone has to shoot. There are many more matches out there with lots of prescribed rules... I hope this will always be a match that is open to all shooters... especially new shooters to the sport.

Perhaps we should rename this match the "Defensive / Carry Gun Match" so we remove any controversy or expectation that you must shoot from a concealed carry position. We'll be an open carry state beginning in November so it seems to be mute point anyway.

I mean no offense by my comments... just wanted to add my two cents on why this match is great just the way it is.

Respectfully,

Paul

None taken. I've always figured the billing of this match shortchanges its true value anyway. It's started a lot of 3 gun and USPSA shooters into the sport. I know a few folks shoot this everytime to hone skills with defensive guns... and a few people use this as a tuner for other matches.

I kinda like the mix. Plus you can learn alot. Last night somebody on our squad learned that you REALLY need to load magazines before you come to the line. I bet he will never forget to load his carry gun after last night. Some folks like to shoot and meet like-minded people. Every individual has something that drives them to do whatever they do... and Heartland Carry Gun lets everybody find a niche.

Scores, prizes? Sure. Any given week we get 5 or six people who are well on the way to Master or Grandmaster class in whatever Association they compete in. They win on times every event. I suspect a lot of us just shoot to see what we did wrong or to see a seasoned shooter run a gun the way it should be done.

I have seen some folks improve vastly. For the most part I would never like to end up between the "Average" Heartand participants firearm and their loved ones.

  1. Scores are posted HERE.
  2. It is a carry gun match. That is what it is designed for. HOWEVER, We welcome any gun you want to shoot. Everyone is happy!
  3. Lesson learned about my carry gun: Don't carry re manufactured ammo from Heartland. Jam-o-matic! I shot a pretty clean match and got to Stage 3 and BAM! Kimber no-like ammo.
  4. Thanks to David for putting on a great match
  5. Thanks to Benjamin for keeping the scores.
  6. Thanks to my Kevin Shufran for running the score sheets on my squad
  7. I like lists.................
