I got hacked this morning while I was on here...Now, I use AOL, so it might have come from there...but, it totally disabled my computer...

It replaced my virus protection. Now if I try to run my protection program...the hackers program takes over...It shows 38 viruses and then wants me to give them 91.00 for the protection program....

I did they payment thing with my credit card becuase I am stupid.....

My credit card scam office called me to tell me they stop payment because it was going to some web site in Turkey.....HACKER...

Please update your virus protection....

I am righting this from work because I have NO computer at home...

If you need to get hold of me...call me...209-2490

I will update this if I find any more about this....

Turn off the computer by any means.

Turn on the computer and hold down [F8] key.

Perform "System Restore"

This is basically time-travelling for your computer. You pick a point in time where your computer acted normally and you instruct your computer to run from that point. Try and pick a point 30 - 90 days out so you can ensure that you don't reload at a point where you already picked up the malware / spyware.

And just to remind you of what you might have just learned: never give your credit card or any other personal information to anyone.

Sorry Steve, it was me. But, I'll reverse it for a small fee, just mail me your credit card and your AR pistol. :ugeek:

Just kidding. Call the governors office, they may have something to do with it. ;)

It is a government black ops....I have to quit posting stuff on Facebook....Oh Well....The Goberment doesn't know I have another weapon....I have a lap top....I will return...

Also, thanks for the lesson in Paranoia.....I have been useing my credit card on line for Many years....I have never lost a dollar...My credit card company has a whole bunch of Lawyers just setting around waiting to go after someone for fraud....and I don't have to pay them, either...

Those fake Anti Virus programs are pretty notorious.

I use MALWARE BYTES, a free anti Malware program, and it does a good job of removing them. SPYBOT is another. Both can be dowloaded for free.

If the FAKE AV app is preventing your scanner software from working, try something simple like renaming you "scanner.exe" to something like "scannerFORD.exe". The scanner app will start to work because the Fake AV stuff only blocks certain anti virus applications from running and it does so by name. Changing the name will fool it usually and allow your scan to run.

Please note that I found nothing on this site trying to infect my machine. I usually get popups for crap like that.

I have to get my puter to start first...I am going to try the restore trick first. Then, I am going to turn it all over to AOL...That is what I pay them for...Just got to get the old puter to boot up first.

Will be leaving work soon to go fight with it...

Did a system restore on the Computer...and sent a nastygram to my virus protection compant...Figured I will get a form style email telling me they are sorry I had a problem....and their service has been stepped up to stop this from happening...

Oh well....

When I was in law school I worked in their IT department. Mostly what I did is fix 'scareware' which is what you got. Some versions actually encrypt your hard drive and make you ransom it - that is, the screen flashes that your HDD is corrupt and makes you pay to get it unlocked again.

In school, the problem came about because of 1. Heavy use of Internet Explorer and 2. A shitty antivirus (McAfee) provided by the school. TECHNICALLY, the hostageware/scareware programs aren't really a virus. They're malware. So antivirus-only programs ignore them.

Let me tell you, without a system restore and/or reformat/reinstall, they are a cat lady to get rid of. I've had success booting with Avira's linux-based rescue CD, which normally lets me boot the computer at least. Then Malwarebytes a few times; use a replacement for process explorer if you need to to shut the virus down long enough to get malwarebytes to go. Then install one of the better AV programs - Avira, AVG, NOD32, or Microsoft's MSE. I've had good luck with all, with one caveat: MSE is pretty good at keeping your system virus-free, but only when first installed on a new, clean system. Not so great at cleaning up a bugridden computer.

In the long term, using Firefox with something like NoScript and/or Adblock will prevent the accidental download of these types of programs again. I think there are some similar extensions in Chrome but I'm not as familiar with those programs. Internet Explorer is like acting in Thailand porn bareback... you're going to catch something.
