Hi all,
I'm looking to get an AR style rifle for home defense/varmints/just shooting, I can't afford anything fancy. Carolina Rod and Gun has one with a Bushmaster Composite lower in 5.56/.223 for $550.00. I'd like to find something used for less. I have about $700.00 to work with but cheaper is better. I'm looking for FTF, trying to avoid extra transfer fees, in Charleston, SC area. Please email me at [email protected] or call 508-631-1183 Thanks Everyone

For $700 you can put together your own, new.

Premium BCM upper $500.
Bolt carrier group $120
Lower $80
Lower parts kit $35
For another $100 you can probably put together basic furniture. Iron sights or an optic will be the only remaining cost. There are some inexpensive irons options available too (I like the basic Daniel Defense irons myself but there are lots of choices).

I hope you find what you're looking for, and there are probably some great used deals out there, but if you're willing to do some assembly yourself I think you can put together a great AR for pretty darn close to your price range.

A brand new S&W M&P 15 Sport should work for you.

last I checked, they were $600 and free shipping from Kentuckygunco.com ......add $15 for transfer at one of the discount ffl guys and it's yours for $615.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the expertise and info. Sounds like building my self is the way to go. I wish so much of the gear wasn't on backorder from what i just looked at

to the thread about caliber note that the specs on the M&P sport say 223/5.56

Many companies have gone to the Wyle chambering to accommodate the .223/5.56 ammo conundrum.
