Any experience with this recoil spring? WC's claim is they last 8X longer than a round wire spring. Price: one Flat wire spring is equal to 2 round wire springs (about $20).

Do you need a fancy guide rod to go with the flat wire spring or am I making false memories again?

I do think you need to run a FLGR with the flat wire springs. I always ran a full length anyways though.

you need a small dia guide rod. That in and of itself is reason enough to pass on the flat spring.

Mike, can you explain how this would negatively effect the function or accuracy?

small guide rod less strong than full size. guide rod breaks youre dead in the water..
the flat springs are a solution or fix to the problem of 1911 owners who do not take care and maintain their guns; and dont regularly replace springs. I say the better solution is a M&P or glock

Ill let wilson try it out for 5 or so years and then Ill make a decision

Fancy gunsmithing knowledge aside, it seems to me that if you're chewing through enough .45 that you're replacing recoil springs all the time, the price of the recoil springs is going to be a small fraction of what you're spending on ammo anyways.

Solid point on both responses. I just wanted to better understand the thought behind it. And like poop said, recoil springs are the cheapest part on a 1911, and much less than the ammo. No reason to hold on to one that has lost its usefulness.

Im not against anything new, necessarily; I just wait for time to tell us the answer.

Dear Mike,

How often do you recommend changing recoil springs, i.e. no. of rounds? I have been doing so when I start to get malfunctions, but haven't kept track of number of rounds fired.

Maybe another topic, and what of the other springs in the 1911? At some point should I change all of them? My pistol is 5 years old now, and several thousand rounds. Is it time to take it into the shop for a check up?

thanks, K
