What barrel length .308

So a buddy of mine is about to order a .308 barrel for his AR. What's the common barrel length guys in heavy shoot with

I have a 16 and a 20; theres not that much of a difference in velocity because the of the limitations of the platform in handling max pressure loads. If I were to pick a gun, Id take the lighter one, and go w 16"
