Been watching a ton of videos, reading everything I can get my hands on and practicing it all and I feel comfortable on some things, confused on others and a bit overwhelmed by it all - but I want to get there!

Disclaimer* I will probably use incorrect terms and definitions - but I am very green and the manuals are long and a lot to digest completely!* I am not opposed to searching for info, but any guidance - (terms, sites, locations etc - to help narrow the results and produce quality info would be much appreciated)

What equipment would be the standard (or necessary)for someone just starting off.
I currently have a 9mm PT92 AF (not modified) with 2 17rd Mags (PT92 was on the USPSA Approved Production list)
Purchased A Fobus E2 Evolution Belt Holster (BRVBH) - which should fit and is hopefully USPSA/IPSC Approved
*Have no clue about what type of ammo to use - (tried some Winchester Bulk ammo (115gr) and it was fine, manual rates the firearm up to 124gr. *I normally buy several types and shoot 5 round groups (on my rifle) and Monarch has been the best for me.
I should probably buy more magazines, but not quite sure where to even begin on mags. Do they have polymer type, weighted, padded base, etc?? That is still approved and accepted for use?

willing to do anything!!!

I'd say get at least 3 more mags, kydex mag holders and some ammo and you should be good for production division.

Mags

Mag pouches

you might come to the heartland match in edmond, there aren't as many "rules" so it is a good way to get a match in before going into uspsa where there are a ton of rules....you already have enough to do the heartland match, alot of times it is better to come do a match with what you have before you start dropping a bunch of cash...

You have come to the right place my friend!

If you want to shoot production division (a good place to start), the rules state that you can only load 10 rounds in each magazine. Some courses of fire require 30-40 rounds, so at a minimum I'd get 2-3 more magazines. If you can't get your hands on any more mags, you can shoot limited division with that gun and load them up all the way. That gun fits better in production, however.

On the mag pouch thing...I like the safariland pouches because they are cheap, nice and adjustable. I've got 3 or 4 extra mag pouches that you are welcome to use for as long as you need. On ammo, get whatever you can find cheapest. Last I checked locally it was the Federal for $9.XX/box at Wal-Mart. I actually started out shooting Brown Bear for $8.XX/box that I bought off the web. It is great ammo. I had one malfunction in about 2 or 3K.

Do you have a site I can look at for this? I googled it, but the links were dead or just spinning - also info for oct and apr were last years. Thank you!

Also thanks for the links to the mags - I am not a fan of the mags that came with the gun (*Brand new in box). I'll take a look at them for certain.

Thanks Chambers! I went out with Dan last night to tour Tri-City. I didn't have my gear so he brought his M&P, 22 Beretta and a Marlin .22 with a new Bushnell that he wanted to sight in. Got him all ready to go and he was helping me with some handgun safety techniques and things to look for. I've got a very bad habit when releasing the empty mag. With my AK, I kind of roll the rifle exposing mag well to the left to be able to quickly drop it, rock the new mag in and rack the bolt in a single motion. This does not transfer to the handgun very well. I usually end up rolling and pitching left which could be a problem.

Gonna have to spend some time with a bluegun!

Check out the match announcements subforum here for more info.

The stages at Heartland and smaller and simpler than USPSA stages (but still fun). Jesse has lots of videos:
