I shot this match back in 2011, I think. It was right after coming back from a yearlong tour in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and this match was nothing more than a hundred dollar lesson in how perishable a skill shooting really is. I was happy that I finished ahead of a 15 year-old girl, it was that bad. I'm shooting this thing tomorrow and I hope I do better than that. Either way, 9 stages and 300 rounds of ammo should be fun. I have the added challenge of taking my six year-old son and two year-old daughter because mom has a seminar she has to attend. And I thought I had trouble with stage planning with no real distractions......

USPSA Missouri State Championship
1st Place
Production Division
"B" Class

I guess that sounds better than saying 6th in Production, 35th overall, but it sounds suspiciously similar to a participation ribbon to me, especially considering there were only 6 B-class shooters. I'll do better next year.

It still sounds better than "First Place Limited 10"....in any class :)

Nice job!

After the match, they held a man-on-man shoot off, with people handicapped based on classification and division. I came in third and got 40 bucks, but it feels a bit hollow. I could run around and say "Yeah, baby, I beat USPSA VP and Grand Master Sherwyn Greenfield!", but he had 10 poppers and I only had 7, and it still came down to the last popper. By the way, I squadded with him, and I think he really is a GM, not just a paper GM. He's really good. In any event, his 10 vs my 7 feels like my classification won, not me. I think next year, I'll ask to have all 10 poppers, no matter who I get paired up with. I will almost certainly lose if I go up against someone like him again, but I think I'd rather lose heads up than win with the help of my classification.

Does that sound like a dumbass concept? Should I take a win whenever I can, or is there a place in competition for personal pride, even if that place doesn't include a payout?

I have thought about shooting L-10, but only because my wife bought me a Glock 41 and Production doesn't have Major. Is L-10 just the division people go to have a better chance of placing because nobody shoots it?
