Does anyone actually use their rifle sling for something besides slinging their rifle? Reason I ask, in my previous shooting experience, a sling was important for building a solid shooting position in prone and sitting. I'm thinking I can use my sling for a hasty sitting position pretty quickly.

The first thing they taught us in the Army was how to sling up. We used the conventional 2 point nylon on the M16's.

So, in civilian life I continued using the same style to get steady when shooting offhand.

Noticed when sighting in on the bench that my point of impact was different when slung up, vs unslung.
At short ranges, probably wouldn't make any difference, but it really shows up at 100 yds and beyond.

I tried it using a Ching Sling but the time it takes to sling isn't worth the time to get a tiny but more stable. We aren't shooting targets small enough to need it.

I'm glad you posted that up Dennis, now it makes sense that when I zeroed my nordic 22 from bench and thought I was ready for the Appleseed I was going to attend, I found out I had to zero again once I was there and using the sling they way they were teaching.

Free float tubes on AR's are your friend when it comes to slings.

Pretty sure I need to do more practicing and less thinking.

the 'hasty sling' (simple sling- doable with the simple 2 point web sling) is your freind. Shot some CMP service rifle when I was younger- that old 1907 GI sling is a little complicated to set up but it's quite the aid to shooting.

Bayonets will change point of impact too......

I get kind of winded on the 300 yard range using my bayonet, but at least I can get on paper with it. :jester:
