So, I shot my 1911 at the Heartland match tonight. I was trying for speed, since I questioned my ability to shoot as quickly as with my G17, because of the extra recoil of .45ACP. I was very, very pleased with the gun's performance, and happy with my own. But, at the end of stage 3 I just blasted away at the last target, which had to be shot through a hole in a used target backing. My accuracy was sub-par, because I wasn't even pretending to look through my sights- my face was on a whole different plane.

The RO called bullshit on that one, after the stage. And rightfully so. I should have been aiming, at least to a higher degree, because my point-shooting may have been fast as hell, but it would have been just as fast AND much more accurate if I had been aiming, as it was a really close target. Ahhh, but my gun was so fast! I'll aim next time.

I bet with a little practice you can shoot that might .45 as fast as the puny 9mm just because of the trigger.

This is true. I shot the gun itself just ridiculously faster than my Glock 17, but my stage time was terrible. Many careless mistakes were made, and some bunches of general sloppiness thrown in. The speed of the gun was awesome, and I just concentrated on getting the shots off as fast as it would run, because that was the main reason for using it, to test it out.
