Ok guys I'm having this urge to purchase a 22 pistol but I'd like to get some opinions so I don't purchase something I'll end up replacing down the road so let me have them please.

This pistol will probably spend more time hunting tree rats than anything, more than likely be just open sights/iron sights no scopes or dots but the option for a dot might not be a bad thing, need to be able to find mags pretty easy and would rather not have to spend $50 ea for them. So if you were going to go purchase a pistol that would perform these task and not be a real pain or moneypit what would you go with? oh it would be nice to be able to purchase one at a store and not have to hunt to find an older model they no longer make.

This is a place I'm not good with that is a 22 pistol, talk about rifles and I would have no problem picking a winner but I know not jack about 22 pistols. Thanks fella's I look forward to your suggestions. Later,

Kirk

Your choices are pretty much a ruger mk1,2,3 or a buckmark. I have shot both quite a bit and prefer the buckmark my self. I have a buckmark you can try out next time were at a match if you want

Browning Buckmark Hunter. Long bull barrel + FO front sight.

Jake, if you remember it bring it along if you don't mind. I like the 22/45 grip but it's kinda small, I looked at a SW 22a I think but I've not heard great things about them but it fit my hands very well and the sights were nice.

On the Buckmark can the sights be changed out? Later,

Kirk

yes they can be changed out. heres a Shitty pic of mine

I have a S&W 22A and it's been problem free. Mags are $24 on MidwayUSA.

When I bought mine several years ago, they were $289.

They are $240 from Bud's Gun Shop now.

I have the 5.5" barrel but the barrel comes in 7" and 4" also.

Always heard Buckmark's are a lot easier to take down for cleaning than the Ruger's.

Right now I have 3 .22lr handguns:
Ruger Single Six - 6 1/2 Barrel SA Revolver - Love this gun, had it for over 30 years, still one of my favorites
Mosquito Threaded Barrel - Horrible trigger, many fail to everythings, but the grandkids like it and it's good for learning functionality.
GSG 1911 .22 - Just got this one this week haven't even pulled the trigger on it yet, it's got a threaded barrel too.

My next one will either be a Ruger 22/45 or a Buckmark, need the threaded barrel for my spectre.

I've got a Ruger Mark II 22/45 with a tactical solutions upper. Super light, fiber optic front sight. Super shooter. Had it longer than any gun I own and that's saying a lot for me. You're also welcome to give it a go next time we are at the same match. It's like a Timex, I feed it the Federal Walmark bulk pack stuff and it just keeps on running.

Well as much as I'd like to add a can I won't so I'll probably go with the longest barrel I can so I'll have the sight radius for hitting those little tree rats way up there in the trees. I had a Ruger 22/45 slab years ago and it was a fine pistol, PIA to tear down for a cleaning but you get it figured out after awhile only problem I had was the grip was small. I'll see if I can't get out and fondle some of the Buckmarks and see what I think. Thanks for the suggestions fella's! Later,

Kirk

Here's mine Kirk. It's right up your alley. Has a decent trigger too right out of the box.

Scott's looks like it would meet all you wanted, even could throw an optic on it too.

After seeing these, I'm thinking a Buckmark gotta be next on my list to buy!

Scott if you wouldn't mind I would appreciate running a few round thru your pistol! that's pretty much the model I was looking at just not a fan of that fiber up front I'm just used to all black sights kinda easier to hit those tree rats. Later,

Kirk

Have had alot of rugers mark I,II,III's 22/45's all of them i guess and a Buckmark is the only one still in the safe!

I just traded my Ruger MK3 hunter off today. It was a sweet shooter but a major PIA to strip down. The next one I buy will be a BuckMark
