This Saturday will be our monthly Steel Challenge. Set up will be at 8:00 and I know Doug will appreciate all the help he can get. Shooting should start around 9:00.

Be there! :D

and I have no clue what a steel challenge is. Were I to come, would I bring a 9mm or a .22.

A steel challenge is a really fun shoot. You have a stage with steel hanging from poles. There are usually 5 pieces of steel, with the last being called a "stop target" You race against the clock. when you hit the "stop" target, the timer quits.
The steel does not have to fall, just ring with the shot.
You shoot the stage 5 times from the same position to get the score. Move to the next stage after all shooters are done. If you don't have 5 mags, your allowed a buddy to load your empty while your shooting another, or if there is somebody using the same gun, they will offer their mags to the shooter. Great fun!
Watch the first shooter, and you will know what to do. ;)

You could bring what ever you want. We have had some show up with a .45ACP.

Typically it is shot with a .22 pistol.
If you want to come, you can use my Ruger Mark III Hunter with a red dot. :D

I have a walther p22 with 3 mags. I think I might try to come out there tomorrow morning. How do I get there?

T A Y M O O R! T A Y M O O R! T A Y M O O R!

(That was me chanting your name)

Go try it then we will shoot the Steel Challenge at OKCGC next month

I'd like to know how to get to the range. I'm not at all familiar with Ponca

I don't think I'm going to be able to pull it off. I've have "honeydo" obligations at 11:00 I was hoping I would be able to snake around. But I'll buy some more p22 magazines and come out in the future for sure. It is, however, a relief to find a place a bit closer than OKC to shoot at.

We had 18 shooters show up. We had a good time. I'll get match results posted when they become available. :D

Too many city slickers and traffic around there for me!

BTW, .22 fun match next Saturday. Everybody mark their calenders. I'll make a formal post on it later.

we can weed them out for ya.

Dennis, move to Norman and open a range. PLEASE!

Let me be perfectly clear on this.
I did not put on the match. I am a member of the PCR&PC. I am on the range design committee.
This match and all of the others, are put on by groups of volunteers. Nobody in this club makes a dime off of the matches.
All of these pistol matches are put on by a group of folks that want a third pistol bay, and matches are a way to raise money.
Some of the steel poppers have been financed by folks on their own dime, with matches to get their money back. No profit, just payback.
The Texas star, and Polish Plate Rack were built by one guy, and donated to the club for the pistol shoots. Matches have paid back his expenses. His time was not compensated.
Steel poppers, the star, plate rack, bowling pins are left out for the members use.

Rifle bays, some have contributed dozens of hours salvaging plywood for the target frames, and have recieved no compensation for their work.

What I'm trying to say is that the Ponca City Rifle and Pistol Club is the greatest group of people I've been honored to be associated with.

Painting target frames, installing fences, ditches for drainage, culverts, etc have all been done with no compensation to the member doing it.

We have matches during the week, and most weekends.

We hope all of you will come to shoot with us in the future, so we can make this into a facility that will be a destination for shooters.

This club has been in existance for 47 years. The facility we shoot at now has been here for 4 years as encroaching developments made us have to move from the previous site. Its still a work in progress, so bear with us. Its only going to get better!:D

But we need a leader like YOU!
Y'all just need to form a club with bylaws, etc, get some money with contests, drawings,LLC, membership, buy some land and get started with building a range. Land would have to be bought on a long term loan, but in the metro area around OKC, there has to be droves of people that would want an outdoor facility to shoot at. I only get on the internet occasionally, but I see lots of posts where people are looking for places to shoot outdoors.

The PC club is NRA certified, etc, so that certified matches can be shot. There are rules that have to be followed in building the berms, range shelters, etc.
I've seen pics of other ranges, and have seen spent targets like trash on the ranges, etc. I can assure you that our range is spotless. The members pick up their stuff, and anything else that somebody may have left.......

I know your position, and realize that its not easy to get something like this started, BUT if somebody will step up, its not an impossible thing to do.:D
