Just got results for my first match of 2013. All in all, I improved by leaps, and probably from dry fire alone this winter. BUT, and this is I think huge, while on every stage I scored the most points, I was still way down in the pack. The tale of the tape shows that each stage winner finished in at least half of my time. I'm getting faster, as evidenced by my hit factors, but wow, I really need to pick up the pace.

Anyone can shoot fast. Hitting something is the the hard part. My progress always seemed to leap frog. I'd get faster but if give up hits. As I got comfortable with the speed my hits would go up. Then I'd learn a new technique and get faster again and on it goes.

Here is my mantra for shooting faster.

Smooth is fast, fast is smooth.

As I've been working on getting better about being smooth and making my shots my times have gotten faster.

try doing some meth before the match, not only did i go faster but i had a ton of energy..

Accurate Ron once told me "get your A's, if you ain't got A's you ain't got elephant dung" you can't miss fast enough.

I keep doing that and have never made it to a match. The bastards always tell me I can't have my rifle or ammo in the cell. The chickenshits! :onthequiet:

Have somebody video u
Jesse T pointed out I would haul ass to the next box once in the box I would then aim
More efficient way is to start aiming gun as you enter the box

Other thing that helped with speed was an enos drill that went along the lines of after dry firing let your eyes go to next target followed by the gun dry fire, eyes to next target followed by gun then dry fire, this is one round time yourself for three rds.
After reading that I went to TDSA they added little things and after firing 1000+ rds the sight picture, being able to call shots and speed got tremendously better. If you take TDSA I recommend shooting ur competition gun and don't mess with a .22
I shot a lot of. 22 that helped me learn to shoot accurately
Speed came from getting used to the recoil and sight picture of competition gun

Thanks for all the feedback! The good/bad thing about being a beginner is that there is so much to learn, and there is so much to learn. I was sitting here thinking about it, and trying to visualize easy spots to gain speed, and an aha moment. I'm going to get another mag, run 5 instead of 4. I'm always vexed that I have to reload at a bad time, and I'll bet I'll gain some easy seconds not going to slide lock when the plan goes to hell. And some of it is just moving faster, thankfully I'm capable of that.

There is shooting, then there is everything else you do on a stage. Call your shots, shoot alphas...do everything else at warp speed with no hesitation.

hey, jake looks good on film!

There are lots of things to help you go faster but the one that has helped me a lot is having the gun up and ready to shoot as soon as you enter a position. Be aimed in on a target as you enter and start shooting sooner, shaved a few seconds off my time. You also have to start settling into that position sooner and not haul butt and then come to a screeching hault, which interrupts your sight picture. That is something I'm still working on constantly.
