When I say I can't shoot a shotgun stage you can't believe how bad it is. There are a couple of guys (buddies) who place in the top ten at local mathces. My pistol and rifle stages are not too far behind (2-3sec). But after you add the stages with shotgun I'm usually finish around the 40th percentile.

Since TX Multigun is around the corner I'm gonna spend the next month working on shotgun and 300-400 yard shots. Other than practicing loading deuces what could I do as far as drills at the range to improve my times?

What seems to be the problem? Do you have any videos of the sucking? :girlwacko:

No video but I think part of my issue is I never shot a shotgun until 2 yrs ago when I started 3 gun. My first shotgun was a SPX so I had a ghost ring. When i went to a JM Pro a yr ago my times got worse. I don't think I'm looking down the barrel so all my shots are going low. I actually think it's more mental bc as soon as something goes wrong I lose it. Forget my shell count ect.

I bought 12 individual clay holders and was going to just practice shooting and reloading. 3 cases of ammo and plan to use it. My luck the Pro dies on me bc it's by April it'll have close to 2k rounds thru it

The shotgun is actually the easiest gun to shoot IMHO. It is the slowest and does take the most thought and patience to shoot and load and stage plan for though.

How many rounds does your mag tube hold? I have found that having more rounds than I need helps ease the planning part of shotgunning. If you run a long 12 rounds tube and simply keep it full until the end you will be able to free your mind to shoot.

Does the shotgun fit you, this is important part of shooting a shotgun, if your missing you need to at least double check this

Go back to basics.

shoot at every target once; hit every target once. No matter how long it takes, its still faster than loading more b/c u miss.

I cant stress how important this is, its everything.

Since you said your shooting low, are you pulling the trigger and trying to see what you hit at the same time?

I think between Mike and Dennis you have the answer. Fir static clays and kd plates, I shoot it like it's a rifle. Look right down the rib and put the bead on the target. You can also test your pattern by shooting a large piece of paper or cardboard. Someone else will have to weigh in on patterning, though.

I've patterned my Pro out to 50 yards. Since my I have the Pro at a shop getting the receiver opened up for loading deuces I think that will help me a lot. Before that my tube held 8 and I was having to remember when I had 2 left to load (offhand load). I think slowing down is needed.
