I'm new to IPSC, only been in two matches at OKC gun club. 1st time I used my XDm 40, ( 4.5) had no problems and had a blast. Have about 3000 rds thru it, so I feel pretty comfortable with it. 2nd match I took my XDm 5.25 .40 It also ran flawlessly, the biggest problem I had was getting a fast sight picture. It does not have a three dot picture like most. Ok, here's the question, should I be patience and let it come to me with practice, or change the sights...and with what? I also shoot Limited , is that a good class for a newbie , using the 5.25 (.40 )

Don't change guns. Stick with the 5.25. You'll come around to using real sights. Limited is good to start just because you don't have to worry about planning mag changes.

3 dot sights are for shooters that don't know how to align a notch and post sight set. The sights on your 5.25 are much better suited for speed and accuracy. You just need to learn how to shoot them effectively.

Get a copy of Brian Enos book

Any division is good for newbs. The 5.25 .40 is best suited for Limited Division. Do you have a magazine extension or two for it? The extra capacity will help you out.

Dry fire practice is your friend. I actually took a sharpie and blacked out the 3 dots on my XDm, as I found them distracting. Along with the Enos book, Steve Anderson has a dry fire drill book worth looking at.

Thanks for the good advice, great sport, great folks always willing to help. I will practice, practice, practice.....I don't have any mag extension`s yet. Every little bit helps. I was told it`s a sport of " Little Bits "....

a sport of " Little Bits "....That's a good way to describe it. mag ext, sights, holsters, ect you'll have a pile of bits in no time.
Dry fire is your friend. Good luck and welcome to the sport

I started with a G23 and then changed to a G24. I had the same issue. The sights are faster with the shorter slides.

I switched to the G24 for Limited and I would never go back.

Your sight picture will come back the more you shoot it, and the more you shoot it, the faster it returns.

It sounds like Bob, Jesse, and Mitch have you squared away.

Just wanted to let ya know I had the same experience!
