Shop subsection?

Could we have a forum subsection where folks could post questions to the sponsors and professionals on the board, and get answers? I say pros as well because I know there are a few gunsmiths in the area (Gun Dr, D&R, etc) that may or may not be a forum sponsor but do gun-related business.

This would also be a place we could point folks to if they are a business rep and are not a sponsor, like the issue with the Atlanta Quickshot guy. If he posted in that subforum (or his thread got moved) there wouldn't be any question it was commercial speech and we could all comment or ignore or discuss as desired.

My personal interest in this type of subforum is that I would like to ask a question about a firearm and have several gunsmiths respond.

If this is an old, tired horse that has already been shot, please let me know. You're not going to offend me on the internet.

I agree with rotarymike. I could see making use of a section for callouts to dealers, dealer specials, etc. Anybody see where else these would fit? I guess maybe WTB for some... Deals for others...

Mike, why don't you write the intro/rules/sticky for this section?

This idea worked well at another forum I used to belong to in VA:

Each "official" sponsor got a stickied forum, closed to normal user posting, where only the sponsor posts deals and announcements.

The rest of us riffraff, including "unofficial" commercials could start threads (including questions and offerings) in the rest of the commercial forum.

Might help prevent some controversy like has happened recently. I for one like to hear about "nonofficial" commercial offers although I do try to patronize our sponsors whenever possible.

OK mods, here's what I've got.

Two subforae under the Gunshop section:

Sponsor Promotions
Gunshop and Gunsmith Questions

Sponsor Promotions - This section is intended for sales, promotions, forum member deals etc.

• Must be an official sponsor or otherwise have permission of Mods to post a new thread.
  Can put any commercial language here as long as it otherwise complies with forum rules.
  Offers must state time limits or no time limit.
  Sticky at top of section notifying that no time limit (i.e. normal retail price) offers can change at any time - sponsors will not be held to a price outside of a time limit, or a price without a time limit if raised by distributors. IE, if Magpul raises it's prices 15% don't expect the sponsors to honor the old retail price.
  Posters MUST identify their interest if associated with the sponsor or a competitor - that is, no personal account bumps/comments on a sponsor post unless identified in the post as being associated with that sponsor or competitor.

Non-sponsor threads allowed if

• 1. It is inquiry about becoming a sponsor
  2. It is related to non-sponsor but non-commercial activities - specifically, I'm thinking Appleseed notifications here. Mods have discretion to allow/deny this category of thread.

Gunshop and Gunsmith Questions - In the form of "I'd like to have night sights put on my pistol. What are my options and/or what range of prices should I expect?"

• Disclaimer/sticky at top of section: No shop or smith will be held to or required to give a fixed quotation for service on this forum (i.e., without seeing the relevant firearm in person first.)
  Part prices can be given firm but must have a date range (i.e., "good for 30 days" or "regular price").
  Thread must be started by non-sponsor and non-pro (unless asking for help from other pros on the board).
  Responses allowed by any sponsor.
  Tentatively - responses allowed by non-sponsor pro gunsmiths
  Responses allowed by other forum members as long as suggestions aren't in the vein of
  • 1. Do it yourself or
    2. You're such a dumb@ss for asking

So we have the first section basically for ads, with preference given to sponsors. Then, we have another section for member questions, but geared toward dealer/shop responses only.
