I thought I remember someone posting somewhere that you can legally ship a long gun person to person via USPS legally within the state of Oklahoma without going through an FFL.

Can anyone confirm or deny that?

Yes, you can. You can use either USPS or common carrier to ship long guns between residents within the same state without an FFL. Handguns must be shipped through a common carrier.

Q: May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U.S. Postal Service?
A nonlicensee may not transfer a firearm to a non-licensed resident of another State. A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. The Postal Service recommends that long guns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms. Handguns are not mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun.

A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.

You could pin this in the thread...just for future reference.

I wasnt even aware i could ship guns to a ffl until i became a member here.

You can also ship to any ffl / gunsmith / or factory for warrenty work yourself. Long guns can go USPS and handguns are shipped common carrier. You must make sure you fill out the form 1508 and take a copy of the law the first time just in case yor post master is not informed or being a stubborn ass. Also, pay for the signature confirmation. As a dealer, I hate when I drive up to the house and see a long gun box on the porch that clearly says "Mossberg" in big freaking letters. Sure does make your butthole pucker then cuss the sender!

I was gonna drop a stripped lower in a flat rate box. What is this form 1508?

I dont think a stripped lower is considered a rifle. Im pretty sure its just a firearm so you may have to use fed ex

Form 1508 is just for dealers and manufacturers. Sorry for the confusion.

As I understand a rifle may be shipped USPS, but the sender has to sign a form decalring that the firearm is no loaded. That may be the form 1508 referenced earlier.

As for the question about the AR receiver only, my opinion is that if it says "pistol" on the side, then it's a pistol. If it says .223, 5.56 or "multi" I'd call it a rifle. But that's just me.
