S.115 Constitutional Carry

Kelly Golden on 94.3 devoted most of her show to it this morning. Unfortunately she's against it, it makes her uncomfortable that people wouldn't need training before carrying.

I wonder what kind of training she has to 1) have a broadcast radio show and 2) speak publicly.

It makes me uncomfortable that people are allowed to exercice their 1st Amendment Civil Rights without being properly trained and licensed by a state regulatory agency.

Well, we only made it 15 minutes until the first irrational, emotionally unstable nutcase started talking about dangerous weapons. I must admit it was the funniest anti-gun rants I've ever heard.

The meeting's over and by my count, there were 28 speakers. (I might have missed a couple)

1 was a ranting disaster. She needed medication.

2 were clearly anti-gun, although they "supported the second amendment".

1 was an older retired teacher who seemed confused about rights. Perhaps she only taught English.

1 young lady was there to talk about the wrong bill and wanted her representatives to talk to her on Twitter. She got a civics lesson.

1 was a weepy, tearful preacher about sandy hook. Because the killer would have thought twice about killing kids, if only there had been a law.

1 was with organized anti-gun. I didn't catch the name, but it was something like mothers against guns or some nonsense. She was angry and very creative with statistics.

Of all the pro-gun talk, the recurring theme of some was who will train all the Tom, Dick and Harry's who will now be carrying. What the hell has happened to people. They talk about rights, and in the next breath, talk about getting government sponsored training to get permission for that right. Who trains people in the 28 unlicensed open carry states?

I'd say about 10 of the speakers had it right.

I posted some comments on the 'General Discussion' thread on S115 and tonite's mtg. John's assessment is accurate.
If someone wants to/can move my post to this thread, have at it and thanks!

From a Palmetto Gun Rights email:

It?s time to turn up the heat on Senator Greg Hembree.

The Second Amendment protects our right to keep and bear arms . . . without infringement.

That means we shouldn?t have to beg the government?s permission to carry a weapon for self-defense!

That?s just the way the founders intended.

What good is it to own a self-defense weapon if you can?t carry it with you?

It just doesn?t make sense.

But Senator Hembree may be standing in the way of exercising your Second Amendment right.

He won?t make a commitment to support Constitutional Carry.

It?s always been my experience that any politician who won?t make a public commitment to support a gun bill, plans to vote against it!

Senator Hembree sits on a Senate subcommittee that will decide the fate of Constitutional Carry.

Hembree will likely be the deciding vote.

Senator Hembree is making lots of noise about being a strong Second Amendment supporter, but he WON?T COMMIT to supporting Constitutional Carry.

So, I need you to help hand out flyers Saturday in Horry County.

It?s time to let more of Senator Hembree?s constituents know he won?t make a commitment to restore your constitutional right to carry a self-defense weapon without asking permission!

Let?s see if his constituents can stiffen his spine and get him to make a commitment.

If you?re in the Horry County area and can set aside some time to help us distribute flyers in Hembree?s district on Saturday, March 16th, please reply and let me know.

Palmetto Gun Rights supporters will gather at 10:30 AM on Saturday March 16th in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 10820 Kings Road in Myrtle Beach.

We?ll meet in the outer corner of the parking lot closest to Highway 17 (King?s Highway).

Please hit reply and let me know you?re coming so I?ll have an idea of how many volunteers we?ll have.

It?s easy, and fun. We?ll have "walk lists", addresses of pro-gun folks for the neighborhoods we?ll be going to.

If you've never helped with a flyer handout, or "lit drop", before, don't worry . . . it's easy, and we'll provide complete instructions for what to do!

If Senator Hembree votes against Constitutional Carry in this subcommittee, it dies without ever going to the full Senate for a vote.

We?ve gotta turn up the heat, so he?ll see the light!

Don?t miss out on this opportunity to make a difference for Constitutional Carry!

For Liberty,

Denise Snelling

I just saw a teaser for a segment on the Greenville Fox News. "A new bill makes it legal to carry a gun without a permit. Hear what instructors say are the dangers."

Ooooooooo the dangers. I'm going to make a bet with myself that none of the instructors they interview will say, "if this bill passes, I'll lose money". $100 to charity if I'm wrong.

ETA. Nope. The answer was "it will make law enforcement more difficult"

I'm giving money to charity anyway.

With such a giant group of folks who apparently have no clue that the majority of the country is open carry friendly, without any permit, this battle is up hill.

They also just broke a story about a restaurant armed robbery. They must be mistaken. Guns and alcohol don't mix.

Just watched the report John mentioned.

Johnny Horton, co owner and CWP instructor at The Firing Line in Spartanburg.

"For it, with training. Against it without. If you need a license to drive a car blah blah blah". Along with the "But but, the law enforcement officers!" Screw um, instant add to me never give a dime to list.

ill call fox news just to see if they know that mr horton is bias and will loose money if it passes.

several people making that call might open their eyes.

Hit via email/fax/phone. Here's hoping.

The root cause of the problem with S115 is that there is just not much support for it in SC. Even gun owners are not terribly supportive. Even people with CWPs are not supportive. Of course the entire CWP industry is not supportive.

In Alaska the dynamics were way different. Yes, the CWP industry was hostile. But open carry was legal and people actually liked freedom to some degree. SC has been concerned about "those people" getting their hands on arms since the 18th century and those sorts of attitudes are alive and well today in many places I'm afraid.

I think the better strategy is to push this and restaurant carry but "settle" for restaurant carry and a compromise for unlicensed open carry and perhaps expanded reciprocity. The antis compromise all the time to get part of what they want. We should too. I want Constitutional Carry but the state can't even figure out how to honor non-resident permits, do open carry, do restaurant carry, force businesses to enforce their own damn victim disarmament zone signs, or let me carry in a library.

I'll settle for a good solid bite at the apple that gives us some significant gains while giving the opposition nothing of value. A solid win gives momentum to the Cause and conditions people to more freedom. They usually end up liking that freedom, and nothing bad happens. You then take another bite of the apple. There seems to be no VCDL or similar state-level organization that is really fired up in SC so getting some traction on the issue is a way to start that networking and political activation at the grassroots level.

You're right. We need to support good bills, and trash bad bills. This may have little chance of passing, and restaurant carry may have little chance of passing... this year. It took three straight years to get restaurant carry for CHP'rs in Virginia (unlicensed open carry and being allowed to consume alcohol was always legal) so maybe it takes five here... Maybe seven.

The gun owners don't seem to be as motivated here as in Virginia. One thing I've noticed is that organized anti-gun is very active in VA. The Brady bunch, million moms, and others are right there so VCDL was necessary to form a defensive front before they ever became an effective offensive lobby scoring for gun owners. They are the exclusive effort in VA now. Even the stuff the NRA claims to have done, was really pushed through by VCDL. It just has to start here somewhere. It will be a battle every year, just like it is in Virginia.

Over on another board, the situation has become a little discouraging. There is one loud mouth who is adamant that the sky will fall if folks are allowed to carry without some lame SLED training, and even wants to require IQ testing before one is allowed to carry. The authoritarians are loose in the asylum.

Anyway, we'll see what happens this year and take another swing next year. We really need to remove some anti-gun folks from office at the next election.

John, this isn't the Asylum. The cities are the Asylums. Virginia, especially Northern Virginia anti-gunners are more organized because of Asylums like D C drawing so many liberals into close proximity. We are seeing the the same thing in North Carolina in the Winston-Salem, Raleigh-Durham, Charlotte-Meklenburg(sic) areas that have seen the influx of liberals and the rise of wrong headed higher education models that belittle patriotism and individual freedom and personal responsibility. Of course living to close together for too long drives people freaking crazy. They start to act like lab rats in an over population experiment. They adopt contra-survival policies and other distasteful practices that mirror our present urban society. They go out into areas and try force their own insane thinking on everyone else. The country rats can't believe they would do such crazy crap or be able to influence others to join them until too late. Insanity is contagious and teachable. Just look at the the extreme Left And Right.
OK rant over.
Carry On! Dave
