After consultations with several people, including club members, Match participants, medical professionals, and a detailed review of the weather this Saturday, I have decided to cancel the August 6th Rifle Match.
Temperatures of 100 at the beginning of the Match will only increase as the day goes on. The heat index is going to be through the roof, and the possibility of a medical emergency is just too great. Our regular shooter who is a former medic has advised that the possibility of heat stroke, heat exahaustion, and other heat related problems is just too high. As one regular member has posted above, it will just be too hot.
The option of holding the Match an hour or two earlier was suggested, but a 5 degree lower temperature doesn't seem worth the still very real risks inherent with holding an event of this type in this heat.
I don't know about you folks, but running around with 10 to 12 pounds of gear in a black vest in 100+ temperatures does not sound like fun.
Please accept my apologies and know that it is taken for your safety.
Make plans to attend the 4th Anniversary Match on Saturday, September 3rd. We are hoping to break our previous Match attendance record for the event.
Thanks again, everyone please stay safe and healthy during these hot summer days and I hope to see everyone next month.
Dave
