We actually did that a couple of years ago. I was hauling in gravel with my tractor to walk on as the match progressed. It didn't help. Ankle deep mud.
There are a lot of match veterans from that day on the board.

It would be possible today, with the new gravel installed on the bays, and roads, but not practical.
