I do believe in the first amendment. And Phil can say anything he wants to he has earned that right and just remember free speech is not free so thank veteran.
No, they don't own him, he is his own person. But if you honestly think that any employer should just sit back and let someone who represents them say things that may decrease their revenue you are mistaken.Eric_williams said:He gets paid to do the show and when there not filming A&E doesn't own him. So what he said in a magazine interview should not matter.
It's not a first amendment issue until the man is being punished by the state for saying something.Rick Honey said:I do believe in the first amendment. And Phil can say anything he wants to he has earned that right and just remember free speech is not free so thank veteran.
It is about the first amendment. We the people have that right .As long as he didn't say it on the show.technetium-99m said:It's not a first amendment issue until the man is being punished by the state for saying something.
The point I was trying to convey was not the one that came across. Hopefully nobody gets there feathers to ruffled!Stone Dudley said:Seems like freedom of speech doesn't matter anymore!
I agree to some point, BUT, A&E signed a CHRISTIAN family from the south that can be described as rednecks for a REALITY show. They aren't paying him to play another character, they are paying him to be himself, unscripted (to some extent anyway). That is like signing Kanye and then getting mad that he cussed.Jesse Tischauser said:Unfortunately if you want to be a public figure you gotta walk the walk and talk the talk. Heck I get scrutinized for my words and actions and I'm just a piss ant 3 gun shooter with a fancy shirt.

I agree with your first statement.Stone Dudley said:I don't agree with how the situation was handled. That all I was trying to say.

I will agree that this has nothing to do with the first amendment what so ever. The first amendment is for protection from the government.technetium-99m said:No, they don't own him, he is his own person. If I get on a soapbox in front of my place of business and strip down nekkid or otherwise act like a lunatic then my employer may very well decide to get rid of me. If I make off color remarks to a client and it gets around then I may be canned. It has not one bit to do with the first amendment.
