Hi Folks;

The August IPSC match will be held on the 6th and I’d like to ask for some feedback from any of our shooters who care to offer it.

Our matches have been very successful for a number of reasons -- ultimately it’s all about you who come out and shoot with us. Realizing that a large percentage of our “regulars” are driving 2+ hours each way to come to our match we are very mindful of the time and cost you invest to get here in time for our matches. We don’t want to do anything to screw that up. While we periodically get feedback to alter the times or format of the match, we believe that what we have is working well for the majority of folks.

That said, given the unprecedented heat that we’ve experienced this summer we are contemplating making the August match a little different to try and beat the heat â€" at least some of it. We are thinking about starting at 8:30 and start signing in about 7:45. We’d plan on 7 stages [already designed] â€" actually 6 bays, with two short ones in one bay. We’d keep the round counts down a little â€" 5 field courses, 1 classifier, and one speed shoot. Lunch as usual. With the turnouts we are averaging, with everyone’s help we ought to be finished and gone shortly after 1.

So I’m asking for your opinions â€" does this sound like a plan for the August match? Would this be workable for you or not? If you are driving in from out of town, would you still plan to attend?

I appreciate your thoughts on this. As I said, it’s just an idea at this point. Matt and I will consider all the input we get and decide what we’re going to do. This only applies to the August match; after that, we’d return to our normal schedule which seems to serve well.

We’ll follow up with “The Plan” later next week.

Thanks!

dang that would be nice. i wish ITPSC would move their start time up. 6 or 7 would be great starting time.

This sounds like a great idea to me. I'm only diving across town though. Having said that, if I were traveling further for this match I would not haver any problem with the earlier start time.

When I used to play golf I always tried to get the first tee time to beat the heat and get back home. A 10:00 am start causes the matches to take up the entire day. I'd much rather have a few hours in the afternoon to get my honeydo's done.

Just an idea. Something we do in Jackson. We have online registration which allows you go enter your info, class, div, uspsa number etc etc and they come to the match with all the score sheets preprinted. This saves a bunch of time. Me be a thought.

Well this ain't Jackson...........JACK!

Just kidding, that actually sounds like a good idea, I just don't know if they have the capability of online registration

good thought, but i know numerous suggestions have been made and it sounds like they like to kind of run it the same way and aren't really looking to make many (if any) changes...

I like this idea. A lot! Like Rusty said, if I had to drive to Tulsa to shoot it, I still would. The idea of getting home, a shower and a nap in front of the fan on a 110 degree day is very appealing. B)

Just tell me when and where I gotta be. - I actually like starting earlier to finish earlier.

Heck I think they could leave up the stages for the entire weekend and we could choose which day to shoot 'em or shoot them both days with a different gun.

I like both of these

it's nothing too elaborate - go check it out...

Well having only shot it once, ( due to the time evolved) I'd Love to see the "Shotgun" type squading like they do at the IDPA at USSA. and start that thing Early!!!! You would come sign in and as soon as you had enough shooters to make a squad off you would go. Then hand in your sheets at the end. This would put more work on Matt and John ( I assume) but Im sure more folks would step up and help if they needed it.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a classifier this month?

Yep Scott there will be a classifier. That way you can be at least B Class by the time you shoot the Area 4 in cool squad 22. I will probably beg off this time.

Last week I asked for your input regarding start times for the August match. I appreciate the dozens of responses I got. We try very hard to strike the best possible balance for all of our shooters, many of whom are coming from a long way off.

So here is the plan for the August IPSC match on the 6th:

1. We will begin sign-in about 7:45, with walkthrough at 8:30. Key to success is for folks to show up sooner, rather than later. If we have a flood of people arriving at 8:29, it won’t work well, though our intent is to get started on time regardless.

2. We are planning 7 stages on 6 bays â€" one bay will have a classifier and short speed shoot. I’ve designed the stages, and will probably keep the round counts down in the low- mid 20s. Field courses, just as we like it!

3. The Sand Witches will be arriving about 10:30 with the intent to begin lunch about 11. As usual, we will not actually interrupt the match, but squads can cycle a few shooters at a time through the lunch line so we can keep things moving.

If everyone pitches in with scoring, pasting and resetting stages, and stays focused on keeping things moving along, we should be done by 12:30 pretty easily.

So Bottom Line: Come early and let’s get after it. We’ll have a good match and beat the worst of the heat. Hey, we’re tough…. I actually debated trying to have a stage where we could involve some sprinklers…… no, I didn’t do it, but I was tempted….

This schedule ONLY applies to the August IPSC match on the 6th.

As always: CHECK THE WEBSITE FOR ANY LATE ANNOUNCEMENTS â€" http://ipsc.okcgunclub.org

Thanks!

John

By the way, I will be setting stages up Friday afternoon about 1PM. Help is always welcome and as most of us know, we usually get “evil ideas” as the stages come together and all the builders start thinking ‘devious and diabolical thoughts’…. If you think you are coming, drop me an email and I’ll advise of any changes in plan.
