OP (Boatdoc), you mentioned that this is a "compact." By compact do you mean Officer/Defender-sized (in Colt model terms of size)? If that is the case, then these compact models often do not have barrel bushings like Government/Commander sized 1911 models, and tend to have more complex or nonstandard recoil spring-and-guide assemblies.

If my understanding of you meaning by "compact" is correct, I am wondering if the binding has anything to do with the functioning of the barrel bushing and/or recoil spring-and-guide parts or interface with frame/slide?

Also, curious to hear your answer to KHFrench's question whether this is a series 80 (or series 70) model?

In any event, looking forward to hearing your report on the outcome of the manufacturer's diagnosis.

officers frame, compact slide

flgr with bushing and again. I stripper it down to frame and slide and the binding was still there. original thought was disconnect was stuck--NOT. their CS think the ejector moved. probably that is the cause as the g un is tight

I think it is 70 series style gun

had DW jam during break in years ago(specialist). took a small adjustment by their cs to unstick it.

no it is not a DW this time

This is interesting to follow . . . I'm curious in that if you stripped your pistol down to frame and slide, then you would have removed the firing pin stop, firing pin, spring and extractor. In this case you would know without doubt whether or not your 1911 is 70 or 80's series?

no I stripped the barrel recoil spring out of the slide only. did not, could not remove the firing pin stop. did not touch the extractor

Easy check Boatdoc...remove slide and look for a firing pin safety, similar to a Glock (LOL)....see below

Or look at the frame where the disconnector comes up through the frame...if there is a small "arm" recessed into the frame it'll be a series 80 (the "arm" raises and disconnects firing pin safety)...see below (far left is series 70)...

Boatdoc...aluminum frame and carbon steel or stainless steel slide? Maybe a small burr on the rails or some galling?

It's a series 70. There are no semi custom series 80 makers unless you consider Colt CCS guns semi Custom.

all carbon steel and no burrs or even a extended pin fr0om the extractor. I checked EVERYTHING I could think of.made sense that the extractor moved a very TINY bit and now causes a slide to bind. maybe the gunsmith who made the gun had a bad day or a liquid lunch

its here. arrived an hour ago.

turns out my second guess was right--the firing pin stop was a bit low( odd after 4-500 rounds of shooting). they repaired it and it seems fine+ new FEDEX driver did exactly what he should do-- deliver it on time!
