Offset irons with optic

I have always heard that two optics on your rifle (scope & red dot) put you in open class. Now that Barry Dueck of Surefire has made his nifty offset irons, I began a little research and for the most part found that an optic with offset irons leaves you in tactical (optics, tac-optics) division. I always thought the rule was two sighting systems put you in open, no matter what the sights are. Which is correct? Which is in place at OKC GC 3 gun and USSA Multigun matches?

I understand that red dots are in with the irons now and that red dots on pistols and shotguns still put you in open. Not my question.

Offset irons can be used in Tactical (Optics) and Limited (Irons) Divisions.

Good question Wormy, I thought the same.
So let me ask, I was looking at an AR a police officer had a month ago.
It had a scope on it.
On the passenger side of the rifle, off set, was about a 3 inch long fiber optic.
I don't know what he lined it up on but for 15 yds or less seems a person could use it.
Whether i could hit with it or not,
So...Scope and Off Set Fiber Optic, would that be Tactical Ops Legal?.

Maybe Mike. I am really thinking I will give it a try on my coyote rifle. Those hard charging coyotes get up on ya in a hurry and if the scope is on 5, where I usually keep it, the offset irons may be the ticket.

I still want to give it a try in a match tho.

XS is supposed to be making a Big Dot version of those things. They are supposed to be very fast but not for anything with any precision required. I bet they would be usefull on a few of the stages we shot last weekend at ROckcastle.

I considered this, but the sights were somewhat less than $300, which is absurd. That money had to go to other things, but I think about those offset sites often.

For our local "outlaw" matches offset irons, with a scope or other optic should keep you out of Open. In a match using USPSA rulebook you would be in open.

Here's the rules from OKCGC 2010 3gun rules. The way I read these anything more than a single sighting system put you in open. Is this right?

6.4 Rifle - Tactical Class
6.4.1 Firearms must be of a factory configuration (see Rule 5.3)
6.4.2 Barrel length shall not be changed for the duration of the match.
6.4.3 Internal modifications are allowed providing the modifications do not alter the
original factory configuration of the rifle
6.4.4 Tactical Class Magnified rifles may be equipped with no more than one (1) optical
sight.
6.4.5 Tactical Class Non-Magnified may have a single 1x sighting system, electronic or
other.
6.4.6 Rifle supporting devices (i.e. bipods, etc.) are not allowed in this class.
