Hello,
I hope to relocate to the state soon and was hoping you all could provide me with some suggestions. I would prefer to move some where near the coast, as I love the beach. Recently I was injured severely resulting in being partially disabled. As getting out of the house is not always easy to do, I would love to build a small private range on any property that I buy. I cant seem to find any written laws regarding if this is legal in SC. And if it is, what the requirements are to do this legally? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Secondly, if anyone can recommend any counties or areas near a beach that I could legally pull this off, would helpme narrow down the search. Fyi, I am looking to shoot various calibers . Hope to see you guys soon!

There was a recent question like this a few weeks ago on AR15.com. The answers seemed to say that there are not any state laws on shooting on private property. There are various ordinances about shooting within city/town limits. There are also some counties that have rules about shooting within a certain distance of a road, residence etc. There is also the potential of noise ordinances.

I don't know if this helps you or not. Generally it is legal but you need to check into more details in the specific area. SC is generally gun friendly.

How close to the coast do you want to be? There is a big difference in price and availability based on the distance to the beach.

City/town ordinances for weapon discharge in town/city limits and for noise are the only issues you may face.

It really all boils down to your neighbors. If they hate guns, they'll call on you. If you luck out, they may help you build the range!
