I am going to get a new STI Limited gun for USPSA and 3 Gun. It will be a 5" in 40 cal. What do I need to do to this gun? How light or heavy should the slide need to be and so on. Tell me what you like and dislike about yours.

What I like about mine is the finish, hard chrome. What I don't like is the bulky slide and frame. Mine's a full dust-cover, bull barrel, standard-slide Edge. Next time around I'll be going with everything lighter. Short dust-cover, tri-topped slide, bushing barrel, lightening cuts. I detect that my gun has too much mass moving things around too much during recoil to get a decent sight picture for follow-up shots.

Jeff get with Cameron customs guns. Step up to a six inch gun you will love it.

For me it was my eyes. less recoil on a six gun. A light gun means more recoil not less recoil

I've got an Accurate Iron edge-config 2011. It's the most common configuration in the division, I figure it should be for a reason.

Talked to a builder the other day. Looks like I will get a 6". He said he could build one lighter than a 5". Another thing he asked was about a hybrid barrel. Has anyone shot one or has one on a gun? Told that it was a very flat shooting barrel.

I have one with a Hybrid Barrel

BUT

I haven't shot it yet and no idea when I will LOL

5" heavy dust cover, like a factory edge, is the easiest to shoot and most forgiving.

In reality it doesn't matter...fundamentals are always fundamentals. Get the newest fad stuff if you wanna feel special.

I shot a 6" last Saturday, It felt good in my hand, recoil was very manageable. Could follow the sight and was very accurate. That is what I'm looking for in a gun.

Here's the deal - every 2011 is like that. It's a heavy gun by design and we don't shoot loads that are very stout. They should all be very accurate. The configuration of the gun doesn't matter nearly as much as the time you spend practicing, especially for Limited. I got halfway through Limited B class with an M&P .40, and I only stopped there because my 2011 was done and the USPSA matches around me dried up. That same M&P was hurting the feelings of quite a few SVIs.

By all means, buy what you want and what you like, but also recognize that it just doesn't matter that much.

I watched Jesse couple years ago at 3gun nats kill everyone on the all pistol stage with a glock. So it's all in the beholder. If u like the 6in sti 5in sti glock m&p or whatever. Shoot the s$#% out of it and have some fun

And this ^^^^ guy just bought a Benny Hill 2011. (Just busting your balls Hensy)

OP, Buy what feels good in your hand. I love my AI 2011, but I get my ass kicked by glocks, m&p's and factory sti's on a regular basis. Make the gun about what feels good to you and you shoot well. A custom pistol is not going to hide bad fundamental skills.

It really doesn't matter what you use. I have a lightweight 5" custom 9mm and a stock full dust cover .40 & .45. The lighter guns always feel fast when you pick them up simply due to the lack of weight. However the heavier guns soak up some of that recoil of the bigger boolets.

The main thing is that the gun looks badass!

I did I did. I like it better than my glock
