So I want to get into 3 gun competitions. Ever seen a thread start with that? I have a Colt light carbine and a Beretta M9. I'm thinking about getting a Wolff trigger upgrade and a D springfor the 9. What do you think about those upgrades? Should I consider getting a match barrel or should I save the money in case I want a different pistol after getting some experience. Any mods you think I should get for the Colt right of the bat? All I have for it is some MBUSs. Where should I look for an M2? How do I find competitions I'm out around Vermont? I've been reading a lot of the threads on here and yall seem to really know what you're talking about so I'm sure y'all can help.

Also I'm thinking about getting a FiveseveN. Any thoughts on that add a 3 gun pistol?

Some of the best advice I got starting up was run what you have until it holds you back. So I would say not to change anything but instead go out and shoot a bunch of matches and you will quickly find out if you want to change anything and what you want to change. Everyone is different and tactics are changing all the time so shoot a few matches then make changes to your guns and gear. Good luck and come shoot a match in Oklahoma sometime!

A Fiveseven is not allowed in most matches since you will be shooting steel at a pistol distance and the Fiveseven is a pistol shooting essentially a rifle round.

They are fun to shoot but since all the matches I have been to require at least 9mm to compete, its useless.

Like it was said, shoot what you have until you figure out what you like and want.

Benny Hill usually has some M2s in stock.

Good luck

Neither of those firearms are optimal for 3 gun use. But you can go out and compete with them and have fun while you learn the sport. So I would not spend anything trying to upgrade them into 3 gun firearms.

Andrew from Samson manufacturing is one of the top and most educated shooters up in the NE that I know. Shoot him an email off of the Samson Manufacturing website and ask him about local matches. He can also be a great resource for getting your gear setup right.

Take a look at the Stag Arms 3G, Double Star 3G, Colt Competition 3G, and JP Enterprises JP15 rifles for an idea of what a 3 gun rifle is and what features they have as compared to your colt.

As far as pistols go the Glock 34 or M&P 9 Pro are popular entry level 3 gun pistols. The STI 2011 in 9mm is the high end 3 gun pistol.

Shotguns are Benelli M1 or M2 or the new Vinci, FN SLP, Remington Versamax or the Mossberg JM Pro.

Good luck!

Glocks, M&P's and XDM's are great options for 3gun. they are the most used pistols and are easily customizable. Like Jeese said an STI is the top of the line pistol you have to pay the price but you get a top of the line pistol.

Good luck!!

From what I've read it sounds like even after you buy the sti you still have to spend some money upgrading it.
I realise the m9 isn't a great gun for this but I wouldn't mind having a little work done to it in general, just so it will be a better gun. So I'm looking to do some things to the guns I have just to make them better but will also translate to 3 gun. I actually bought the Colt after the whole gun ban scare. I payed a little too much for it but hindsight is 20/20. What do y'all think about looking for a good deal on a used 870 and using it until I get a few matches under my belt. I sold my Bushmaster and 870 a few years back and no longer have a shotgun. The real cat lady is I paid more for the colt than I did the bushy. Thanks for talks help guys

Get Benelli Nova or SuperNova instead of the 870. Get a Mossberg 500 instead of the 870. Don't get an 870.

If you want an 870 get an older one, the new express models leave a lot to be desired. We had a great Nova for sale here a few days ago.

You can upgrade any of the shelf gun. An STI is no different. It comes from the Top shelf which isn't close to the shelf the M9 is on.

I second the nova over an 870 if you plan to shoot 3 gun. You won't get one for $200 like an old 870 but for $350 you will find like new ones.
