Since I'm new to competition shooting, Tell me what matches I need to attend. Mainly 3 Gun and shotgun. I want to try to get to at least 5 matches. Travel is something I can do and love. This is my planning for next year. By then I will have a lot of matches under my belt.

well that is a tough question to answer without more information.. what do you currently own??

i'm an idiot, i scanned the question and read it as if you were asking what equipment to buy! not what matches to attend.. hahahah my bad

I have yet to attend a major match I wouldn't go back to.

Rocky Mountain is cool because its all long range shooting. Big stages big prizes.
ProAm is a big big event. Lots of shooting, prizes, good people and good times.
Ozark is a high end lake vacation spot. Great restaurants and fun stuff to do. Match us good and Adams arms makes sure the prize table is stocked.
FNH is a big match. It's AM/PM format best utilizes your time at the match. Great range, prizes and challenging stages.
I love the Nordic Shotgun match every year. Weather in Minnesota that time of year is gorgeous.
The one I want to shoot next year is Tarheel. Match videos looked like good stages and I've not traveled to that part if the country.

a great match over multiple days with lots of stages, the rest is up to you.

I see that some matches have entry fees are $250 to over $300, what do you get for that kind of money?
Sometimes sweet door prizes! I won a 250 dollar pistol bag at Double tap this year and a heartland gift certificate at their match!

The big match fee usually means your gonna get the majority or all of it and then some back in prizes. Plus like Wall said you get bigger and better stages that are usually things you won't see at a club match. There is also a lot of fun socializing with friends from around the country.
