Well you know that the chaos in Egypt, Syria, and Iraq can be directly traced back to open carry in those countries. Also, scientific research has proven that most wars throughout world history can be attributed open carry. I mean look at Hitler.

Felons carrying guns because EVERYONE else will be too... There's sound logic from a highly educated man. Can't argue with that.

People said the same things when they deliberating concealed carry. There was going to mayhem in the streets!!!! The wild west was going to be alive and well. I think that has proven to be false and i am sure that all of the rhetoric over open carry will prove to be the same. I think that if, when, HB2522 makes it to the Govenors desk, she will sign it into law.

I'm all for guns and concealed carry, but I'm not really behind open carry. It would be nice to have to worry about flashing or imprinting or whatever, but people rolling around with guns out in the open seems like it would cause more problems that it would fix. Open carry is going to make it easier for people to grab a gun out of someone's holster, put a target on them, and increase the likelihood of accidental discharge. IMHO anyways ...

Texas has open carry, right? I haven't been to Texas for extended periods of time but when I'm there I didn't notice that everyone was wearing a gun. In fact I have never seen anyone with a pistol carried in the open. People aren't all of a sudden going to turn into John Wayne with two six Shooters at their sides simply because it's not perceirved as "normal" to carry a gun out in the open. So the funny looks and people avoiding you will be enough deterrent to keep the guns concealed.

The ridiculous stories like Taymoor getting cuffed and stuffed cause his shirt blew up while riding a motorcycle and a cop saw his gun. He wasn't doing anything wrong but then the elephant dung hit the fan for an otherwise law abiding gay middle eastern man.

I'm just worried what the fishing best companies are going to start building I stead of those sleek concealment garments.

I agree with you to a point. I am behind the open carry. I agree that I think it is probably not a good idea to be walking around the mall or such place with your carry weapon out in plain view. I also think that the liklihood of a grab are greatly increased. Not too many civilians that I know of are trained in weapon retention. However, it would be nice to be able to get out of the car at the gas station and not have to worry about putting on your cover while gassing the car. If you want to be able to take off your jackent and sit down in a restaurant and not have to worry about cover, that would be nice. If I want to walk my dog around my neighborhood with out having on my cover,,,,ok. I do think that there needs to be some different consideration given to holster types and retention devices if the decision is made to open carry or even semi-open carry. There definately still needs to be a lot of common sense exercised with this new option of carry. I hope that there is still some of that left out there.

if open carry passes, i will have multiple guns i will open carry, 2 on each hip so i can shoot 2 guns at once, just like video games and movies, a thigh rig with another gun and of course a tactical vest with extra mags...

I think that open carry as a practice is tactically not a great idea but I do support the making of open carry legal for the reasons listed above. As a law abiding citizen, gun carrying citizen I would very much like to have the freedom to carry how I please and freedom from the worry of someone spotting my gun and a problem arising.

When I was in Alaska, (open carry state) It wasn't uncommon to see somebody with a pistol on their hip. Nobody ran in fear, or feinted on the spot in abject terror. The only place that had any blood running the street was from a guy that had a 400lb Halibut in the back of his truck.
I do realize they have a different culture in that state, and its not uncommon to have bears in residential neighborhoods.
The same will happen here. People just won't pay any attention to it after awhile.
One thing you can be assured of if it passes, you won't see a felon or criminal with OC. They will be hiding them illegally like the do now, and have done in the past.

having lived in a OC area for a while... there is stupid open carry... and "discrete" open carry.

a blued gun playing peekaboo from a IWB holster against a dark shirt? Not much to see here. Strolling around with a Bruce Willis double 1911 shoulder rig? that will get a look or two... maybe even generate a "man with gun call" in some jurisdictions.

OC will let you drive in your own car and expose a belt carried gun without a cover garment on (a SDA violation now0
Pump gas in Wynoka, OK with your gun showing (hey... no body noticed when I did that...)

Walk out from the house to your parked car with a gun showing to get your jacket...

yea... stuff like that

In AZ... you might see a open gun out in a small town... but you probably would look all day to find one in Phoenix...Good open carry is all about "manners" I used to see a open gun or two in Kentucky... rural stores, hunters and fishermen... you won't see anybody going heeled in Louisville and if you did..it would be discrete.

Yeah. Very much agreed. I wonder if the will notice when the Boars start overwhelming our cities? Sure most see a cute piggy. but some of us know better and the rest will learn real fast!

HB2522 might be in trouble. Senator Wilson, the consistent "NO" vote through this whole process, has proposed an amendment to the bill. The House has rejected the amendment, but it appears that it is having to go back to committee. You need to read the amendment for yourself to get the full story. But in summary, wording about abortion, use of force, all kinds of good bill killers. At least thats my interpretation. Maybe someone here can shed some more light.

One of the anti abortion folks decided to ammend the firearms omnibus language... the anti abortion folks have been trying "to make a statemnent" and that was retaliation because they did not get enough support for their "when is a person a person?" legislation.

I spent a lot of time last year in AZ and I saw open carry everywhere off post. There were a few restaurants that posted no weapons, but I don't patronize those kinds of places.

I vacilate on this issue, but I'm coming to the conclusion that it would be good if:

1. You were required to take an additional class on the specific issues concerning open carry - like weapon retention, holster choice, etc;
2. You were required to place your SDA permit in plain sight on the belt within a set distance, say 2", of the front of the holster;
3. They redid the permits in such a way as to make them easily identifiable to LE indicating that you were "OC certified". I like the idea of remaking the SDA ID rotated 90 degrees like an underage drivers license to make it readily identifiable at a greater distance.

I'd even be willing to pay another fee to eliminate the administrative costs for the initial issuance, but would expect it to be no additional charge at renewal.

My scenario:

Johnny gets his SDA license;
Johnny take another class conducted by local, county, or state LE
Johnny pays for new license (which extnds original expiration date)
Johnny gets new SDA/OC license, buys retention holster and permit carrier
Johnny no longer wears windbreaker with his bermudas in August.

Johnny no longer wears black socks and sandles.

Johnny already pays a tax on self defense here in OK... Next year expect to see a push for Arizona -like Consitutional Carry laws.

That is seems to be the craziest thing I've ever heard ... I can't believe the politicians are able to function in society at all.
