It could be advantageous in certain situations. Some matches deemed them illegal or made them open division only gear.
I have played with barricade support devices a bit and they really only help when you dont have a lot of lateral or vertical transitions between targets. They can lock you in so well you can move to the next target or worst case get centered up on the target you're trying to engage.
