checking in. I'm looking forward to using the forum. Thanks for making it available.

Welcome aboard. What kind of shooting are you into?

Thanks. Primarily defensive handgun and rifle. I'd like to start doing shotgun soon, too. I'm a member at USSA and participate in the training group program there.

That training group deal sounds awesome! I wish I lived closer to Tulsa so I could get in in that action. You should shoot the ProAm shotgun match at USSA. It will get you running a shotgun fast like.

Shotgun is so much friggin' fun. If I had my way, I'd shoot a run-and-gun shotgun match twice every weekend. Definitely make it to the next Pro Am. Come to the 3-gun matches, too. Plenty of shotguns to borrow.

We got some great shooters around here that you can learn a lot from.

You should post your feedback of the training group thing. I'm curious as to how that will work out.

I'm enjoying training group immensely. I spend an hour and a half twice a week or more getting some really good instruction. Since the first of October they have improved my shooting exponentially. One of the best things is that it's a 'run what ya brung' so you get to see where the deficiencies are in your gear. I've changed my daily carry setup as well as how I have my rifle set up. For the money, Training Group simply cannot be beaten. I know there are a lot of people who are hesitating due to the apparent uncertainty going on out there but I am personally glad to have signed up. Having such a world-class facility with the quality instruction they're offering right here in my own backyard is a no-brainer for me despite whatever issues they are having at the corporate level.

I will have to try the Pro-Am. I'm running an 18" defensive gun with a 5-round capacity. Will that work in the Pro-Am format?

I really enjoy running a shotty. My shooting partners and I run a fun little drill with three bowling pins: Three shooters line up abreast facing the pins at 10-15m. The shotgunner is in the middle and the two shooters on either side have pistols. With pistols at the low ready and shotgun at the high ready, the timer signals the pistoleros to attempt to shoot down the shotgunner's pin before he shoots down theirs. This is to simulate a shotgunner being faced with two armed men approaching a loading dock, a checkpoint, etc. All of the shooting can safely take place at the same time by representing the shooters with bowling pins. Try it, you'll like it :)

You can shoot the ProAm with any shotgun. They have a pump, auto, and open division. The Autos are the most poplar because they are easy. You will be at a slight disadvantage with the 5 round capacity. The rules allow you to carry 8+1 in the gun at the start. You can load more after the beep if you have room. if you want to upgrade your capacity take a look at Nordic components mag tube extensions. They are the best out there.
