when I bought my brand new '79 FXEF it came with electric start....only. No kicker.
The 1st Christmas after it's purchase my wife bought one of those " engine dress up" kits for my bike, from the Harley dealer.
It had chrome acorn nuts to replace plain fasteners, & asst. chrome bits & pieces. I asked her if it was o.k. if I returned it, & used the $ she'd spent on it to get a factory kick start kit.. which included the start lever, trans cover to accommodate it, & necessary internal parts. She didn't mind my idea, so I got the kit & installed it. Must admit, the factory parts have never failed or needed replacement. I've used that kicker more than a few times in the past 47 yrs.. & it makes adjusting my solid lifter a breeze, compared to turning over the motor with the button or raising the rear wheel with the trans in gear, then turning it over by rotating the elevated wheel. I later did add thosenice acorn nuts to select parts of the motor, over the years. Getting that kick starter kit was a good decision.
