Words of wisdom for sure. When you're a kid you couldn't wait turn 16 to get your drivers licensr 18 so you could get a real paying job, turn 21 so you could be "legal" in all 50 states, then time progrss and we begin to regress. 65 comes and we start to begin to seriously think of retiring, 70+ and we're looking back and thinking where did the time go? Enjoy your life, try to make good choices, and remember, eternity is forever. Choose wisely. Happy New Year all! Stay safe.
I made it to 63. Just a year and 3 months from 45 yrs. My health got bad the last year of work. I so wanted 45 yrs. Ya just never know lol. I will say I've never regretted it for a second! At 65 I decided I had enough and retired. Life is good and I excel at being lazy.
I retired at 63½ at the end of last school year. You all remember... I drove a school bus for 12 years and just couldn't handle it anymore. Either I retire, or I end up in jail.... just sayin'At 65 I decided I had enough and retired. Life is good and I excel at being lazy.
I don't know how you drove school bus for 12 years! They are savagesI retired at 63½ at the end of last school year. You all remember... I drove a school bus for 12 years and just couldn't handle it anymore. Either I retire, or I end up in jail.... just sayin'
US Coast Guard (Ret).
County public schools transportation (Ret).
Social Security (a prior career in the I.T. industry greatly increased my $$$ entitlement -- I make MORE now by retiring!)
They are now.... COVID and school shutdown had something to do with it. Kids were "tolerable" before that. These last few years just kept getting worse and worse, and I got no support from the schools, from the county transportation office, ....and kids were out of control. I saw the writing on the wall and retired.I don't know how you drove school bus for 12 years! They are savages
All I can say is wow! Michigan has been a libersl cesspool for years, but it just keeps getting worse. Our state govt (if you can call it that) is so dang corrupt I can smell it on the west side of the state! Too dang many commitments to move, and gettin' too old to go anyway. I'll make my stand here when the time comes. It's not all bad I have been blessed with wonderful family and some incredible friends that I'd die for, so yes it could be much much worse. God bless us all. A-men." I saw the writing on the wall and retired ".. much the same for me.
I worked in the mental health field, my last site was working with adolescents.
I saw changes in the administration I didn't like.. mandating overtime ( call just before your shift ends & tell you you have to stay & work the next shift, that you're not going home).. not a choice. Even worse, IMO , is allowing the kids to choose whether they attended or participated in therapy groups.. They could skip groups, if they wanted. They were in a mental hospital because of the bad choices they've been making in their lives..so let them choose if they want to participate in their treatment ? Our / my tax $ paying for their stay, & "treatment", and they can choose to ignore participating ? That's crazy, IMO.
That was too much for me..I pulled the plug @ 56 y/o, couldn't see staying. I gave up 20% of my pension, retiring early & was still the best decision I've made.
No regrets leaving early, just wish I'd followed thru with traveling plans I wanted to do on my m/c.. but health issues to an end to that plan. My goal is to draw my pension for at least as long as I worked for the state, as I feel I deserve that, for what I put up with @ the jobs I held. I'm already about 15 yrs. in , toward making it to the 20 yrs. I worked there. My plan is to collect my meager pension even longer, if I can. Too many of my co-workers never made it as far as I have, so I feel blessed.
